Dhaba Joy
📍 Address: 2900 Guadalupe St, Austin
⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5)
I wanted to do a belated review on Dhaba, but they are closed?! I hope that Arielle is right about the softserve being dished from Toy Joy, because that is what we sampled. They had a dreamsicle flavour and an almond-cherry one or something...they were good. Smooth, but a bit icy. A nice flavour and consistency. They had a few toppings (we went for some chocolate sauce), and the towering swirl in the little cup was a beauty. A nice li'l treat in the heat.
Charlie's Kitchen

This is true to form dive bar. It's dirty, it smells, the bathrooms are uni-sex, the people are a little rough, and the food is pretty great. The cheap drinks make it all worth it. The menu is extensive, so if you're looking for a good dive bar burger (or $13 double lobster rolls...yup, you read that right!) this is a good place to check out. People watching is a must, because the characters that show up at this place are definitely one of a kind.

I really like Jersey Mikes with the exception of this location. The food is not up to the quality of the other locations.

I love all Thai food. For me there is only good and great Thai food but today I learned differently. We ordered mussaman curry with beef and green curry with chicken for take out. The beef in the mussaman was a strange rubbery texture that was like no meat I've ever eaten and I don't want to think too much about what it could have been. The green curry was tinted with green food coloring or something because the chicken and vegetable were all stained a weird green color. Green curry is okay but green chicken is not. It was a couple dollars more expensive than usual Thai meals so I was expecting it to be of the great variety but it definitely was not.
Pei Wei

Been going to Pei Wei for years. It's definitely tastier and fresher than a normal Chinese place and they have a nice variety of dishes. I enjoy their Mongolian and Pei Wei Original (formally Pei Wei spicy) the most. You can get the Pei Wei Original in a variety of spice levels, and I usually do the medium level. I visited today to try their new dish, General Tso's. Wow was it spicy! I'm a fan of a little heat but this was a bit much for me. The flavor itself was good, but my nose was definitely running. Pei Wei does great promotions, I'm always getting coupons and such in my email. I enjoy their fried rice and lettuce cups as well. I used to order the sweet and sour, and that was always a good standby. I really like that you can order your choice of protein with any entree. Service needs a touch of work, they only had one person working the register at dinner time, and there was a line with people complaining. If they added another person at lunch and dinner times they would earn another star.
