Fish Grotto

📍 Address: 1035 SW Stark St, Portland

Stars: (3.5)

Don't judge a Fish Grotto by the outside of the building. The minute you step foot in the place you will be magically whisked away into a nautical seafood adventure. This place is old, quaint and makes you feel like you are dining with the captain himself who caught your fish. The bread was perfect. Our cocktails were exceptional and it gets even better, our sourdough bread bowl filled with clam chowder rivals San Francisco's finest.

Jam On Hawthorne

📍 Address: 2239 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland

SO GOOD! I had Tommy's Joint and it was a pretty big portion and super tasty. Our food came out really quick and the place is very kid friendly and the staff was super nice. Would go back the next time I'm in Portland. Tip: get there early to avoid a long wait time. Got there around 7:15am and there was already a line of people waiting to go in, but it's worth it. Just get there early if you can.

Propagation

📍 Address: 1221 N Mills Ave, Orlando

Stars: (3.5)

I have been working my way through the to 25 coffee places mentioned in the Orlando Weekly. Propagation was next on the list so I headed over to check them out. I walked in and saw a sofa to the left that had signs on it and thought it was just cleaned and thought nothing of it. It turns out that the piece is for sale. If I am going to buy a piece of furniture, I would prefer to try it out. That was a huge turn off right there. Not letting clients try out the furniture they might wish to purchase is like asking someone to buy a car and not letting them drive it. Behind me were some small tables if you wanted some coffee and some chairs. I am a big guy and those chairs did not look sturdy enough to contend with a guy that is 6'3 and close to 300 pounds. The killer was the fact that they do not have WIFI for the guests. I would have to classify this place as a furniture store that just happens to offer coffee and I don't really consider it as a "True" coffee shop. Knowing that they source their coffee from Lineage, I just chose to go to Lineage and get my coffee there. I would expect the coffee at Propagation to be good but I came out to have some coffee and get some work done outside of the office and not to go drink coffee as I shop for furniture... Propagation seems to have a bit of an identity crisis from my perspective. This is the first place I have visited that I would have to say did not deserve to be on the list the Orlando Weekly put out in my opinion.

Tasty n Alder

📍 Address: 580 SW 12th Ave, Portland

Stars: (4.5)

My fried halibut sandwich was perfect. It was a lil tangy and not fishy at all. The fries were regular, nothing special. We went on a Sunday afternoon. The wait was about 30 minutes. I'd definitely be back to try other stuff. Thankfully we weren't bumped for a social media influencer. Kudos for treating us all as equals. Also, they bring out the food in segments assuming we'd share our meals. I ain't about that life. Glad my meal came out first.

Manuel's

📍 Address: 310 Congress Ave, Austin

Stars: (3.5)

My office is located across from Manuel's and we usually grab food from here, as it tends to be one of the few options for authentic Mexican food. I was shocked by the rudeness of the staff when I called today. I tried to order my food in Spanish (I'm from Mexico, and fluent in English), as it was very difficult to understand the waiter's broken English (obviously English was not his first language,). He was very rude to me and was offended that I spoke Spanish to him, as if my language was an offense or something. He was very angry and yelled on the phone, "only English". Clearly his English was very poor and it was difficult to place my order. I find it very sad that individuals are ashamed of their own culture. Instead of apologizing, the server told me he was the owner, clearly he was not. The phone was given to someone else and I was able to place my order. I have never experienced someone being so rude to me for trying to accommodate their lack of English skills.

Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant

📍 Address: 425 W Broadway, Boston

Way way way too loud. Shitty service. If you like drunk-as-a-skunk 18 year olds puking in the bathroom at 6 pm then this is your spot.
