Have you ever left a restaurant feeling giddy? I know you're probably making a face like: "Pho-Girl has finally lost her mind" but that is exactly how I have felt the two times that I've dined at Tai Pei. I read in some previous reviews that there are people who drive hours to eat here and I believe it. You have to understand, this type of cuisine is a revelation in this area. Usually what you get in terms of Taiwanese/Chinese food is deep fried-starched meats drenched in neon colored sauces, or maybe a stir fry. A word of caution; be prepared to see items on the menu that are very much the opposite of what you're accustomed to. When you come to Tai Pei, you could order that other stuff you'd normally get at other Chinese places but they have the real deal here, foods that if you were to fly over to Taiwan, you'd find being prepared by street vendors; that is the type of food you will find here. The soy milk. In no way does it taste like the milk you'd buy at the store; this is real soy milk that they prepare in house, sweet, flavorful, without all the chemicals and additives; absolutely delicious and refreshing on a hot day. (They have salty soy milk as well if that is your preference)Zongzi. This is incredibly delicious, and in my mind it is the equivalent of an asian tamale or a pastel. It's sticky rice stuffed with pork and wrapped in bamboo leaves. The rice itself has a sweetness to it, it's warm, it's filling; just order it, you'll be glad that you did. As an entrée; the last two times I've ordered their fried fish lunch box. The fish is cooked perfectly each time, very moist and tender on the inside, but crispy on the outside, brimming with spicy peppers on top; insanely delicious. The seasoning, I'd venture to say is five spice mixed with flour or breadcrumbs, just phenomenal. In true Taiwanese style, they serve your rice/noodles with finely chopped pork that's been simmered and in a gravy of its own juices, yup; very delicious. If you order the lunch box it comes with both rice and noodles and vegetables but I personally find that their noodles are the way to go so you do have the option of just getting all noodles instead of rice. I'm told that I've only touched the tip of the iceberg and that there are still many delicious dishes like their fried tofu, steamed bun with pork belly, and the spicy beef noodle soup which they only serve 15 bowls of each day, so come early for that particular dish.If all of this weren't enough of an incentive to dine here; I'm going to throw you another one. Service is good here. The owners are very friendly and more than happy to accommodate your request or answer questions; all that's left is for you to go and try it yourself.

Excellent service. We've been there probably five times and everything -- the food and the service -- is consistently great.

I think I just found my new breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. I'm trying to make my way around all the amazing Cambridge restaurants. I ordered the tuna melt with truffle fries and omg if you don't like fish, you will after you eat this sandwich. They grill the tuna, which was as surprising as it was delicious!! Plus, it comes with avocados inside, and that couldn't make me happier. The tuna melt came with a couple of side options and the truffle fries were an additional $2 charge, but definitely worth it. Coffee was also good, didn't love the mug it came in. The waitresses were so pleasant and helpful as was the person who greeted us at the door. It's a very nice restaurant, good amount of space between tables. Street meter parking right outside on mass ave if you're lucky.

The wait staff is very friendly but extremely slow. We ordered drinks and shared the Crepes, which were horrible. We took one bite and almost had to spit it out. They were more like dry pancakes with sour/bitter lemon filling.
