The Salt Lick BBQ

📍 Address: 18300 Fm 1826, Driftwood

Stars: (4)

Flat-out wonderful. I've eaten a fair amount of BBQ if you check out my other reviews; until very recently The Salt Lick has been at the tip-top of all BBQ joints. That the 'Lick has now been edged out by a different spot is no insult to them; simply put, they have set the bar by which all other BBQ should be judged. There is little more I can say that others haven't already noted: the standout brisket (don't chicken out - try all the incarnations, from the fatty to the lean to the 'burnt ends'), the superb sausage, the excellent beef ribs. In my opinion, the two standouts are the BBQ turkey - easily the best I've ever had - and the 'sampler platters' that many other BBQ places should emulate. Though I normally give people who eat the side-dishes at a BBQ joint the 'are you crazy' eye, things here are a cut above: the potato salad is unique and good, and the berry cobbler is a thing of beauty. This place pegs the 'CTJ Scale' at 5 stars, as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing on after finishing a meal here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Giacomo's Ristorante - Boston

📍 Address: 355 Hanover St, Boston

One of the best cheap restaurants in Boston. My favorite things are the plain red-sauced spaghetti that comes as a side with the grilled things and the calamari. My least favorite thing is that if you go with only one other person you will always end up stuck at the side of the bar, and one of those seats is right under the air vent, so if anyone's allergic to cold, you'd be well advised to bring a blanket. Along with cash, of course. Second least favorite is either the wait, or practically being kicked out before you're half finished so the wait doesn't get even longer for everyone else... but it's worth it. Sometimes there are call girls in line. I like listening to those conversations best. To Whom It May Concern: Please send/take more call girls to eat here.

Fantastic Salvadorian cucina! Anna the owner is great too; she is always eager to her culture with you. We've tried every Pupusa there, including the grasshoppers. Highly recommend the shrimp (camarones).

Chinese Sauerkraut Fish

📍 Address: 4940 Number 3 Road, Suite 101, Richmond

I'd give this place a 2.5 star rating. It is pricey for what you get. For the two of us, we ordered the small bowl, with a side of noodles, beancurd, and Chinese donut which came out to around $54 CDN. The broth is very flavorful and the donut was very fresh. What was really lacking was the service. I asked for ice water and the sever said the water is cold. I had to emphasize that I wanted ice. Secondly, no one ever came back to ask how we were doing or if we needed the water to be refilled. Luckily, the service station was next to us and we refilled our own water. This place is really geared towards the younger crowd on an allowance and don't care for the value they get for their money.
