Kawa Sushi

📍 Address: 5088 Victoria Drive, Vancouver

Despite warning my wife not to bother with this place when they offered salad rolls on their menu, she still ordered from this place out of convenience for a mother's day lunch. I love to eat salad rolls, but we all know that's usually offered at Vietnamese restaurants. And just as I expected, it was a Vietnamese run Japanese place. I didn't wanna profile this place, but this place fits the profile of Vietnamese people trying to make sushi: gigantic rolls of rice, sashimi hacked with a dull blade and not so fresh, rolls so poorly rolled ingredients are not even and falling out. I can learn to make better sushi after a few youtube videos. The quality of the rolls and sashimi was so subpar, I wanted to apologize to TNT supermarket for what I think now is a not bad product. I'm really not picking on this place, but my sashimi was mushy, found some scales on it and pieces were still stuck together as you tell the dude probably used a butter knife to cut it. One redeeming thing about Vietnamese sushi is the gigantic portions, but I'd gladly have it swapped for smaller but better quality food. Obviously, Japanese chefs are the #1 choice for Japanese food, but Korean and Chinese are solid 2nd place. Now that I think about it, even Earl's makes better rolls.

Amsterdam Cafe

📍 Address: 483 E Broadway, South Boston

A simple frozen yogurt order was messed up. I asked for cookie dough and sprinkles and got M&Ms and maybe Heath bar? It's frustrating when the order takes an hour and a half and they get such a simple concept wrong.

Verde

📍 Address: 640 Main St, Louisville

Went there on Tuesday night and went during almost closing time! They were so accommodating and stayed opened for us! The waitress was wonderful! Everything we ordered was so good! Owner came over to talk to us!! Great service, great food and great atmosphere!!!

Taco Loco Mexican Grill

📍 Address: 44 Broadway, Somerville

Stars: (4)

I go here on an average once a week. Usually, I purchase the steak tacos, sometimes the streak quesadilla. The steak is perfectly seasoned - the toppings very fresh. I came here from Colorado where Mexican food is authentic, delicious, and fresh. Taco Loco is the only place in MA that beats my hometown favorites.

Verde

📍 Address: 640 Main St, Louisville

Stars: (3.5)

We've been watching Verde slowly come to fruition over the past few months (on the site of the old Blue Parrot) so we decided to give it a try to compare it with other reliable establishments in the area. The service was good and attentive and some of the food was better than others. The fajitas were disappointing. Fairly bland and without much flavor. Also, I'm sorry Verde, but your only sourced product - the tortillas - really aren't the best around. Very flimsy and without much substance to them. However, the Carne Asada Burrito really was very good. Great taste, solid filling with just a hint of spice on the sauce. This was very well done. The margaritas aren't up to par and taste very watery, but your beers are excellently chilled just as they should be. It appears this is another option for those with families (young kids) other than Lucky Pie around the corner. 3 stars isn't a criticism just really where it falls. Lastly, to the person who wrote on Google reviews about being offended by the Sports illustrated covers, get a life. If the only thing your family member saw, out of the hundreds of covers on the walls, is less than a dozen swimsuit covers, you should not go out! The history these covers portrayed was amazing but that was obviously missed by you.

Oddfish

📍 Address: 1889 W 1st Avenue, Vancouver

Went to Oddfish for dinner on a Thursday night. We had reservations and the restaurant was quite busy (and warm). Our server was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. She was able to offer up recommendations as it's advised to go tapas style. She explained the dishes and we decided on mussels, himachi, Brussels sprouts and scallops. None of the food was bad. However, it was pretty average for the price. Nothing blew me away as the best ever. The mussels were my fave of those 4. dishes. The whole experience came down to just being underwhelming for the price. Luckily I had read reviews from fellow Yelpers that expressed the same sentiment so there wasn't much disappointment. The service by far was certainly the highlight.
