This place is book heaven, for real. I could easily spend a weekend here and do nothing but read. You can see from the outside that it's pretty big but when you go inside, it's even more massive than you could have ever imagined. For all you book junkies, I HIGHLY recommend getting lost in here.

Shigezo has amazing and authentic Japanese food. I ordered the okonomiyaki (which is a Japanese style savory pancake with cabbage, meat, seafood etc.) and absolutely loved it. I also ordered the mozarella and chicken kushiage skewers (each skewer is breaded in panko and deep fried)-- delicious! The shoyu tonkotsu ramen was tasty but I thought it was a tad bit on the salty side. As the previous reviewer, maki, had mentioned, I wasn't too pleased with the matcha mousse. I also felt the cake was too dry and lacked the matcha (green tea) flavor. But overall, I will definitely be going back. The food is great and very affordable. Many of the dishes are under $10 since they are small plates (tapas style) and I don't think there is anything on the menu over $20 with the exception of two or three special dishes. The key thing about this place is that the people cooking are actually Japanese. You can't say that for many Japanese restaurants in Portland.

Awesome place for a weekend brunch or weekday lunch. I've been here for both and have always had a great experience! I came here on a weekday around 11:00 and they were serving from both the breakfast and lunch menus. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious that it was hard to decide what I wanted. I had the lunch special ($12) where you have the option 2 of the following: half of a sandwich, salad or soup. I had half the turkey, brie and apple sandwich and the genovese salad w/ avocado. The 1/2 salad portion was pretty large and the sandwich was pretty hearty as well. Everything was very fresh (no wilted greens!) and clean. My friend ordered the steak and cheese sandwich and a cashew latte, which I took a sip of and was awesome! The cafe is pretty small so on weekends, expect to wait OR call ahead and make a reservation. I love that they have the reservation option since many popular brunch places do not because they know people are willing to wait for their brunch fix.

The restaurant serves one of the best sushis and rolls I have tasted in Portland (Murata is the other place). I ordered the Shigezo Chef's Choice Omakase that came with 5 pieces of nigiri and 2 pieces of roll and they all were fresh and delicious. I also had the chicken wings as a hot appetizers and it was great. The restaurant hold true to its "izakaya" (Japanese pub) style where the customer could come in to grab a quick eat with a drink or two.

Food is always great. Problems with customer service at this location. Tonight: order online, states ready at 8:09. At 8:07 they can't find my order at 8:10 they say it is in the system and they are working on it. 8:25, I ask how much longer. Girl says it's been sitting here since 8:11. I guess I now have wasted my time and get cold tacos. Never a real apology for any of this. Previous customer service issues but this is the worst of the them. Will just stick to S Lamar from now on!
