finally had the chance to try this french bistro! its right beside one of my favourite italian places... its so hard to get a reservation as when the doors open for dinner service, its always packed! every time i call, its always busy, including weekdays. but for my birthday, somehow the stars aligned and i was able to get a seat. so far reviews have been great so i decided why not... the place reminds me of a typical french bistro in paris. vintage chairs and decors with a homey feel. one thing i noticed was the staff are all native french speakers, except for the hostess. there is no distinct uniform or form of identification to know who works there or not. you just gotta rely on good observation skills. anyhow, ordered the classic streak frites ( memories of les halles - tribute to anthony bourdain - rip) , duck confit, cabbilaud ( seafood combo with manila clams, shellfish, shrimp croquettes, cod, ina white wine cream broth, and veal shank with au gratin! the meal started with complimentary bread and butter. bread was cold, but still soft and the crust crunchy ....so good. let me start with my least fav! the duck confit was a complete failure. the skin was not crispy, the meat was stingy, and there was a smell and after taste. dish tasted old and not fresh....also tells me the duck has been frozen a long time. to make matters worse, the accompanying salad of spinach and shredded duck totally ruined the dish. the vegs were soggy due to too much sauce/dressing...and the juices from the shredded duck mixed for a bad combo with the main confit dish! the cabbilaud was good. nice white wine with cream sauce provided the perfect balance and flavour to the dish. the croquettes were done well. cooked to order and tasted fresh. the cod and other shell fishes/ clams also tasted fresh. i also saw several other tables ordering mussels, so turnover is good. next was the veal shank with au gratin! served with a twist as the bone is taken out, leaving you with a pulled shank meat appearance. dish was good. meat was tender and moist. the au gratin was made perfectly with a bit charring on top. but the highlight was the sauce. it was rich and heavy and had lots of flavours. the spices and the essence of the shank bone was dominant all throughout! very typical of french cooking where the sauce is just as good as the dish! saving the best for last, the steak frites was by far my most favourite entree. grilled and sliced to perfection...so succulent, juicy and moist! cooked medium, meat was tender and packed full of natural flavours. no HP sauce or whatever steak sauce is needed. just a touch of freshly ground peppercorn, boom! outstanding! the frites came hot and crispy but under seasoned! plus factor was it cane with a garlic mayo dip which was awesome and complimented the frites well. overall, i'd say it was a good french bistro experience! i do hope they bring back the beef carpaccio and the roasted pork chop one day.. service was average at best. one other negative thing is they dont wash the water glasses well. our had streak and soap marks all around the glassware, which begs the question on how they wash the cutlery!! they definitely need to work on this! happy eating! cheers!

We were very promptly seated on their second floor deck. What a wonderful spot. Great summer night, ocean breezes and a fantastic view of the entire city. Service was friendly and efficient. Calamari was perfectly fried, maybe could use a bit of seasoning. Ceviche was excellent. I had the tuna which was good/very good. I'll be here again.

My husband wants to give this place four stars. Ok. But I would say this is mostly so if you are a college student and your priority is to get your top dollar for chicken wings. Boy, are you in luck here, because Monday-Thursday are 10 cent wing days, yes, each wing is only 10 cents. It is a typical sports bar place, to me. Zzz.

Best spot in Vancouver for upscale dining with a trendy ambience and a West Coast menu for business entertaining, outside of Vancouver hotel restaurants. My dad and I came Thursday night for our 7PM resos to entertain business associates from Korea. We asked for a quiet spot for intimate conversation away from the kitchen, and were seated upstairs in a corner booth, which was perfect. Our server was good, but not exceptional as experienced on other occasions - perhaps a little less friendly and less attentive as per the usual. She also tried to upsell at every opportunity, which I found was quiet fitting for our situation and it worked in some cases, but it did become very apparent. As for the food, I wasn't as impressed as I normally am. I felt the dishes were more hit and miss: - Tiger Prawn flatbread (8/10) - Recommend! Like a pizza with cilantro pesto, spicy chickpeas, roasted tomato - Tuna sashimi topped California Roll (7.5/10) Delicious, except the white rice was too soggy. Plus, Mango Cali is still better. - Calamari (6/10) - nothing special, could be crispier With white bean, pacific shrimp ragout - creamy, - Salmon (7.5/10) - good smoked flavours, but semi-dry. Would not recommend compared to other fish options, but the artichoke, potato ragout was delicious. - Chilean Seabass (9/10) - heavenly. Honestly, this is a dish that should be highly recommended because is was melt-in-my-mouth amazing, but unfortunately the Chilean seabass is currently going extinct, and I wouldn't choosing it. In this case, I tried someone's dish as they kept raving about it. It was pretty good, as is all Chilean seabass. 3.5/5. High points for ambience, location. Mediocre points for service and food this time round. Suggestion: Turn down the music a little. I`m one to like louder ambience music, as it promotes louder talking and creates more gregarious environments, but we were in a quiet corner and still could hardily hear each other. Perhaps for the dining hours (5PM-9PM), the music should be kept at a level to compliment conversations, and can progressively increase as the late-night crowds come in.
