La Fruta Feliz

📍 Address: 3124 Manor Rd, Austin

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)

True, this place leans towards the dirtier side of things, and yes, they could clean up better around the restaurant, but once you try the food, you'll be glad you gave this place a shot. THE TORTA!!! O my gosh. Easily ranks in the top 3 tortas I've ever eaten, and I've had my fair share of those delicious mexican sandwiches. La Fruta Feliz does not mess around when it comes to piling on the fillings. Even though you'll need to prepare a bunch of napkins since it will most likely get messy, you can't even complain because of the amount of food that they give you for under $6. You'll be satisfyingly full (the worst feeling is being unsatisfied AND full so that you can't even comfortably go elsewhere to eat more), and your wallet won't take a hit. I can't wait to return to try the tacos and fresh juices + smoothies.

Weather Up

📍 Address: 1808 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

Let me start by saying, I have enjoyed this place many times. It has good drinks, above average service, decent food and a nice atmosphere. However, what idiot restaurant designer decided that ceramic tile was appropriate for a ceiling??? Two weeks ago I spent an evening here with a friend. As the bar begin to fill up we found ourselves having to yell be heard by one another. Since that evening I have had terrible ringing in my ears. Sadly, I am certain I have permanent hearing damage as a result of one evening and this is no exaggeration! I can track it back to that exact event! To say that the noise level in this restaurant is average is deceptive! If you go here do not sit in the main bar!! Go on an evening when you can enjoy the patio or the lovely upper dining area for your private party.

Abner's Casual Dining

📍 Address: 4051 Main St, Hilliard

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

Looking for a breakfast place on a Sunday Morning without a waiting list is like looking for a bottle of water in the Sahara desert. It just ain't happening, so I remembered in the back of my head about Abner's over in Old Hilliard. They tout they've been around since the 80's, which is impressive, because I nor my husband have ever recalled ever eating here, or hearing it mentioned by anyone else. So, with stomach's growling we took a chance on breakfast. I'll admit.. we did have a small wait of 5 whole minutes, which is nothing compared to other places within the area. Abner's has a nice little outdoor patio to bask in some sun and nosh on morning, afternoon, or evening eats, but it was a little chilly, so we passed. The inside of this place unfortunately doesn't know what it wants to be. It's dark in there, which caters to the drinking clientele at the bar with large TV's displaying sports proudly, but here and there you'll see historic photos of Old Hilliard amongst beer signs, and Ivy. We kept it simple and cheap and ordered their croissant breakfast sandwiches with our choice of potatoes, which could be cooked in homestyle, or hashbrown, or what really got me was that the server offered me tater-tots. Hello!? I'm all over that! The breakfast sandwich was simple, filling, and hit the spot. There was nothing extraordinary to make it stick out above the competition, but it was just what I wanted. So... why am I giving them 4 stars? Simple. Their waitstaff is really great on Sunday. You can tell those ladies have been working there for a long time, and they've got the sweetness, and saltiness I have missed. Our server was so attentive, and made sure we were happy with everything, and wanted to make sure we'd come back and visit. It's hard to find good servers anymore. A lot of them are just very generic, or frankly just don't care. Abner's may not serve high quality in their food, but their Servers made us feel like home. I'd gladly return here for a quick breakfast bite.

Pepper Lunch

📍 Address: 5951 No 3 Road, Unit 150, Richmond

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

It's been awhile since I've been back to this location. The original Pepper Lunch that started it all in Canada. They've come a long ways since their introduction into this country. A much more extensive menu featuring more cuts of meats and more vegetarian options. Of course you still have to remember that the food here all has to have a certain theme. That is the sizzling hot plate and the quick and efficient serving from ordering to table service. It has to be fast. Tonight I had the mushroom burger made for. Shimeji mushrooms. It was tasty. A bit in the thin side, but tasted good nonetheless. I do think if it was a bit thicker it would be juicier and more presentable. For a vegetarian option, I'm glad that this is available. They also have Kimchi that they make in-house. Tangy, slightly spicy and some some vinegary notes I could taste. It was like a fresh Kimchi. Good to go with any beef pairings. I like the fact that they have this side dish available now. Why not add a bit of spice to your Pepper Lunch! Besides it also a good probiotic for your digestion and it's vegetarian too. If you want seafood, there is the Hokkaido Scallops with Pasta. If you want the scallops but don't want the pasta but want rice instead, just ask to change up the carbs. Remember you can always change things up here by adding other sides. Add extra bean sprouts or Kimchi or a fried egg. Pepper Lunch can accommodate you.

Sushi Kiku

📍 Address: 2770 Lenox Rd, Atlanta

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

Even though it says they stay open until 3pm on Saturday, I tried to get seated at around 2:35 today, and they told me I only had 5 minutes to serve myself from the buffet. The woman who was at the front told me specifically, "we stop serving at 2:45 because we want to get out of here right at 3:00." Bad business, and even though I was a regular customer before, I will not be returning. Turning away a paying customer is unwise, unpleasant, and unprofessional. A shame.
