Apothecary Cafe & Wine Bar
📍 Address: 4800 Burnet Rd, Ste 450, Austin
⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)
I'll be honest: I don't come here for the food. (Although, I've had their black bean soup and hummus before and really enjoyed both.) I really come for the coffee, the wi-fi, and the good company. Once a week, my friend and I spend a few hours here talking about work and life and about how we're going to make all our dreams come true! It's a really great place for breeding new ideas and for daydreaming. The guys that work at Apothecary are super friendly and cool and never hurry us along, even though we really do take our sweet ass time. Thanks for the coffee guys! And for the inspiration. I love this place.
Treehouse Restaurant and Pub

I have been going to Treehouse for years - great casual neighborhood spot. I've never LOVED the food but always thought it was good enough to continue returning. Until recently...I ordered the Ensalata Especial - woah! Might be my favorite salad of all time. I have ordered it twice now and am already craving it again. Instead of feta I get mine with blue cheese, I add shrimp, and get the ponzu citrus dressing. That is the best salad dressing EVER, I must get my hands on the recipe. I've had a lot of different menu items - stuffed chicken (which is also very delicious, just rich so I don't always want it), the trout (decent, not super special), Greek salad, California chicken sandwich, burger, pasta, and buffalo pizza. All are good but none have left me as satisfied as the Ensalata Especial. The ambience is great, very casual. The porch is awesome during warmer months and in the winter they have heaters. I personally think they could make the porch even better by giving it true walls on the sides and maybe one big screened in window instead of the plastic tarps, would make it just a little nicer. All in all I give Treehouse 4 stars now that I've found the best salad ever (would have been a 3.5 before).
Grass Skirt Tiki Room
📍 Address: 105 N Grant Ave, Columbus
⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)
This time under the guidance of our server, I got the navy grog and pork egg rolls. Both were pretty good, so if you're like me and not always the best at navigating a place like this on your own, it's good to know that the staff here is a safe bet. It was also nice to see that the place had a few other tables of patrons enjoying themselves on a Tuesday night. All in All, I am a fan, however I can't give another star because the kitchen seems to close whenever it sees fit. We stopped in at 10:30 and after checking, the server told us the kitchen would be closing at 11:30. This was convenient because we were waiting for someone. About 20 minutes later, the server came back and told us the kitchen would now be closing at 11:15. We ended up having to order on our friend's behalf. Beyond being inconvenient, there was no seeming reason to close the kitchen 15 minutes earlier other than people didn't want to stick around. Now whenever I decide to go here, I feel like I have to bet on whether the kitchen will be open.
BaRa Sushi House
📍 Address: 2625 SE 21st Ave, Unit B, Portland
⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)
I'm a fan of both traditional and Americanized rolls, but BaRa is certainly the latter (our waitress saying "it's traditional" a few times was forgivable, though living in Japan taught me this is simply not the case). Their big maki features goodies like Thai chillies and mandarin orange slices (the hot and delicious LittleB roll), or impeccably integrated cilantro (Clinton's Corner roll), and you probably shouldn't pass on the spicy baked mussel shooters. I would recommend this as a solid place for Japanese, and yes -- BaRa is expensive and should perhaps be treated as a "date night" or "celebration" restaurant, unless you are free Tuesday for an ALL NIGHT HAPPY HOUR!!!
Firehouse Subs
📍 Address: 537 10th St NW, Atlanta
⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)
Their meatball subs are quite tasteless and plain. It's like you're eating air. The marinara sauce is also bland. You shouldn't have to go home and hook up the sandwich on your own. They need to go back to the drawing board on this. I remember regularly enjoying the meatball subs 3 years ago. I wonder what happened.
