Shigezo Izakaya

📍 Address: 910 SW Salmon St, Portland

SUNDAY HAPPY HOUR ALL DAY (with a purchase of 1 drink/person)! That's all. LOL.After a grueling 5mile hike, my friend and I came here for some ramen and hand rolls. The Tokyo Ramen that we ordered (not happy hour price) was large enough to be split into two was pretty tasty. The broth was pretty good but a little oily. The noodles weren't a fave (I've had better noodles) nor were the few pieces of meat we were given. Our faves were definitely the handrolls, especially the spicy tuna. The avo-salmon and avo-tuna were good combos but the spicy tuna was very flavorful and not stingy on sashimi pieces. I also ordered a grilled salmon belly that was pretty great! Overall service and ambience was really nice. The staff worked to try to get us seated right away and the bar was a good place to sit because there's a projector above and you can watch TV. Prices are really good for happy hour and it's definitely worth it (maybe not the ramen, though).

Dish Dive

📍 Address: 2233 College Ave NE, Atlanta

A really good friend of mine suggested this place; it's one of his favorites. The was my first time and it was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is really small with maybe five or six tables inside and several tables outside. The menu is one page and consists of tapas. It is also byob so make sure to bring some bottles of wine! Between the four of us, we ordered eight dishes including the cheesecake dessert. Everything that we had was delicious! Kale & Squash; Cauliflower; Pork Belly; Flatiron Steak; Salmon; Shashuka; Mac n cheese. All of us agreed that the pork belly was our favorite. We were all full by the end and it was very reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food we got. This place is definitely a must try!

Don Asado

We tried this place on a whim, it's been many other restaurants/coffee shops in the past I've been told. When you first walk in you notice the decorations hanging overhead and the warm atmosphere. They have old authentic Mexican music playing in the background to add to the ambiance and a selection of lemonades ready to be poured on the counter. The menu is riddled with spelling errors and bad grammar but it adds to the authenticity and charm in my opinion. You have to buy chips and salsa (they don't come free like in some places) but the chips are home made so $2 for them is a good deal. The lunch specials are about $10 and come on huge plates, I could only eat half my food. I'm a weenie when it comes to spicy food- so my mouth was on fire. My husband didn't taste anything spicy on his food so if you're tolerant to hot spices you'll be fine. Grab an authentic glass bottle coke to top off the meal. This place was nice, we'll be back. Good deals and tasty food!

I think it's not like that good which commented online. That over 3000 views should be fake from my own opinion. You can go try but I'm not recommend!

Life Alive

Kind of a cultish obsession is happening here... I've met four people who have the same reaction at the mention of Life Alive: omg, It's unbelievable, get the rebel, the goddess, the udon, and a smoothie. i would come here every day if I lived closer. As a local Cantabrigian, I shied away from this venue. No offense to vegetarians or hipsters, vegans, my neighbors (ahem) or hippies, but the greenery-filled windows and appearance from the outside had me skeptical. Yah, sorry... I totally judged this place by its cover. But a good excuse came up and I ate here. I got the Udon Miso Masterful, a reasonably sized bowl of rich miso, mushroom broth, udon, kale, hijiki, and other items that typically go into any bowl at LA. I thought it was interesting how many of the plates come with same requisite toppings, but I suspect it's these toppings that make your life ALIVE (the kale, hijiki, carrots) AND the kicker for each is the SAUCE (or broth) and possibly an additional topping or two. Yep, it's the sauce that's the hook. And it may also be the brown rice/quinoa base. Or the large/small dish option. Or the extra crunchy (not literally) nutritional yeast, amino acid toppers that take the place of salt/pepper at a traditional eatery. Don't forget the red hot sauce either, which is also the BOMB and takes your plate to the next level of yum.I came for lunch and look forward to coming again. One and done. Now obsessed. Dinner is calling me (and they have wine! and lots of seating, indoors, and some outdoors).
