Cheerful Tortoise

📍 Address: 1939 SW 6th Ave, Portland

Stars: (3)

The shorter waitress with short blonde hair kep yelling at everybody for standing in her way and claiming everybody was standing in a pathway and it was against fire code. If there are so many people that they have to stand in said "pathway" then I'm going to assume the building is over capacity. Ruined the complete experience of dollar beer night on a Thursday.

Sun in My Belly

📍 Address: 2161 College Ave NE, Atlanta

I liked this place. Hated the street parking. My friend and I went here for brunch on a Saturday. I happened to find this place while doing a Yelp search for food in the area. We waited about 10 minutes which wasn't bad for brunch although I called ahead and they said there was no wait. While we waited we asked if we could order our mimosas which of course we wanted since it was brunch time. They had a little make-shift bar area right at the door run by what seemed to be an inexperienced bartender who fumbled around while making Bloody Marys for the party ahead of us. We didn't get to order our mimosas because we were seated before he got to us. The ambiance is industrial chic which you would expect in an area like this. We were seated near the restroom which I hate but didn't complain because we were starving. Our waiter Ryan was nice and knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested the Challah French Toast which I figured I would get since I looked at the menu before arriving. There was also another french toast option that was savory with spinach which I was debating. I settled on the Challah with chicken sausage. It was exceptional! I was also able to order the house grapefruit house mimosa (Ryan suggested) which was very good! Overall a good experience but some of the breakfast items did not include meat, you have to order it ala cart which drove up the already pricey options. $25 for french toast, two chicken sausage circles and one mimosa for one person. Probably won't make it back but it was good.

The Maiden

📍 Address: 639 SE Morrison St, Portland

Over the last couple of years I have been to The Maiden and every time I think "I LOVE IT HERE! AND WHY DON'T I COME BACK MORE??" The answer to that is that too much of a good thing can spoil it. Lucky for me it has not been spoiled. The food here is always top notch. The cheese plate, tortilla espanola, and the burger are my favorites. And for drinks I always go for the Trunk Monkey made with New Deal chili vodka. It's a sweet and spicy treat. On a couple of occasions I have been there when a band is playing and that has made the evening more enjoyable. They also have a great happy hour menu!
