Take Sushi

📍 Address: 4528 Hastings Street, Burnaby

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)

Went here the other day for the first time. Sushi was ok. It took a while to get our food. The sushi were pretty good portions. One thing that we ordered was the deep fried squid salad, there was an overwhelming amount of greens, and very little squid, but the overall taste of it was good.

Colleen's Ice Cream & Sandwich Shop

Really thought I found a winner. I went there for lunch one day during work and had a great turkey roll up. the diner was cool looking almost old school fifties type of style. Had lots of desserts on the counter that looked delicious. Tons of ice cream on the menu. I took my wife there on a date and we ordered a couple of Penini's. They tasted pretty good but I was shocked as I watched the young servers heat up my precooked sandwich in the microwave. YES, the microwave. They didn't even hide the microwave's in the back of the diner. They're right behind the counter! As we ate, I watched as the next few orders were also microwaved and debated among the staff as to how long the food should cook for in the microwave. What waste of an opportunity. This place has such potential. I think with the right owner they could have a great spot. Maybe they're known for their ice cream.....Disappointing.

Wendy's

📍 Address: 7170 Sawmill Rd., Columbus

What the heck happened since my last visit here? Today I decided to go in to do a to go order and the guy just came from the bathroom, not sure he actually washed his hands before going to the register to check me out. Then when I clearly tell him what I want and he screws up my order and charges me for two full sized salads. He charges me for a berry salad and a full sized taco salad. I was so mad because I was hungry and had clearly stated what I wanted. The manager then looks at the guy and tells him to back off the register to give me the refund right away. So they are getting 2 stars for correcting the situation that should have never happened in the first place.

Bakersfield

📍 Address: 733 N High St, Columbus

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)

I've been here several times and it is always a good time. the food is good (try the cochinita), a boot of PBR is cheap, and the location is perfect for people watching in the short north. this restaurant has been highly reviewed, and rightfully so. let me just point out some of the small things that keep me from rating it five stars. first of all, and most importantly to me, is the value for the dollar is pretty depressing. the tacos are $4 each and really quite small... two or three bites a peace. the salads are a decent portion, and they even took the liberty of splitting one for me and my buddy. so that was nice. the teleras also are a decent size. the house margaritas are nice and fresh but again your dollar won't get you far here. I always just stick with my PBR (literally served in a boot). we ordered the grilled short rib taco (their version of the asada) and it was more fat that meat, but they were more than happy to swap it out quickly for another taco. the manager stepped right in and talked to us as well, and the whole situation was dealt with very nicely. this may have been a fluke but I'll stay away from that particular item in the future. also chips and salsa isn't complimentary which I find somewhat annoying.... all that aside though, this really is a great addition to the neighborhood and highly recommended to visitors and townies alike. four stars.

Blue Star Donuts

📍 Address: 3325 SE Division St, Ste 1, Portland

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)

Got to try this place out for a snack and luckily they still had a variety of donuts to try. Got to order: Blueberry basil - The glaze of blueberry taste great and a hint of basil in the end The OG - Nothing beats an original glaze. The glaze wasn't overpowering the donut and had enough fluff. Chocolate buttermilk bergamot - Something different with a chocolate donut with the buttermilk bergamot glaze. Didn't get to try the coffee, yet something worth trying I bet. Quality of the donuts tasted great.

Clyde Common

📍 Address: 1014 SW Stark St, Portland

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

After walking around downtown Portland for about 30 minutes, my friend and I decided to eat at Clyde Common. I was staying at the Ace and should have just eaten here from the get-go, but I suppose we wanted to see what our options were. The host was super nice and seemed very willing to let my vegetarian friend peruse the menu before making a decision. After a few minutes, we were seated at one of the communal tables right in front of the kitchen. I loved the look of this place. Natural wood mixed with metal and it was just the right kind of loud. It's a more chic version of a gastropub and it was just perfect for what we wanted that night. Our server was super-helpful and very attentive. We ordered the white bean puree along with the roasted beets for our first course. For our entrees, I ordered the cheeseburger (which was amazing) with french fries (came with harissa and creme fraiche) and my friend ordered the potato-leek soup, a salad and spicy chickpeas with the house-made aioli. Everything, and I mean everything was perfect. I love places like this where the staff doesn't try to rush you out of there to make space for more people. It reminded me of small restaurants I'd frequent when I lived in Paris. A person could take their time, enjoy their wine and company without feeling the eyes of the staff burning into them. I'll definitely return on my next visit to Portland.
