Carrabba's Italian Grill

📍 Address: 11590 Research Blvd, Austin

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

Ambience - standard Italian decor that you find. Lots of Italian lingo and wine bottles scattered across the store. There is tons of seating with most being tables. There are a few booths thou. The entire kitchen is super open. Only separating the dining room and kitchen is a waist high counter top. Very impressive and a bold move. But it is a good looking store and was clean. Menu - well it's an Italian place so it is all pizza, pastas and protein plates. I liked how the names were not normal. It was listed as spaghetti, fettuccine and so on. They had actu names which was nice. Not a very big menu but they did have lots of good looking food. The wine list is pretty varied and pretty extensive. Overall it is a pretty normal menu with all the key favorites and then some unique items as well Service - the service was good overall. It was slightly confusing thou. At first we had a gentleman helping us but halfway thru we were being helped by a young lady. I dont mind if someone is helping the other but we didnt know where the tip was going. Who do I tip? Do I tip double? Lol, what is going on. They were both attentive and both very friendly. So I guess we got lucky and had 2 good servers? Lol. The service was good if just slightly strange and unusual Food - i got the rigatoni (something I cant pronounce) and the wife got the .... well it was fettuccine alfredo with shrimp. My dish was a hearty pasta dish with a nice red sauce, good meats and large rigatoni. My dish was really good. Both dishes were also very generous portions. The noodles in mine were cooked well, not mushy or hard. The sauce was a pretty average red meat sauce but still had some good flavor. The meat thou was so good. It was cooked well, nice and juicy and not dried out. The meats themselves also just had a great natural dead animal goodness. My dish was very enjoyable. Nice flavor, great meats and all around delicious. The wifes fettuccine was good just not made correctly in guess. And if that is the actual way then, that is disappointing. What made it seem incorrect is that is was super watery and the sauce very thin. It basically didnt stick to the pasta and just wound up pooling underneath the noodles. The sauce tasted fine but since it was so watery all we could taste was just noodles and a slight hint of sauce. The shrimp thou was cooked perfectly. Not overcooked and cooked just right to remove that overpowering ocean taste. The fettuccine was still pretty good but just kinda watery. We also both got a "side salad" that was very impressive. These salads huge. Biggest side salads I have ever seen. Overall - despite some eccentricities, this was a really good visit. The service was good, the food was good and we had a good time. It was strange not knowing who our actual waiter was, or where the tip was going. And despite one of the dishes being kind of watery. They were both still really good dishes. We both had leftovers, which is always a bonus. Once we let the fettuccine hold in the fridge till later that night, the sauce congealed together to make it a better dish on the second round. But overall it was a solid meal.

Jim & Patty's Coffee

Great place. The staff is super. They're kind and offer up great suggestions from drinks to pastries. And the pastries are good. The donut muffin and the coconut oatmeal cake are worth a try. Great people, good place.

Blue Moon Pizza

📍 Address: 5610 Glenridge Dr, Ste 110, Sandy Springs

I'm not a NY pizza fanatic and when someone associated this place to a NY pizzeria, I should have taken the hint. Breading is thin, which I like, but the topping and sauce was scarce. I hate crust/breading on pizzas in general, but when you have no sauce or toppings, mine as well eating bread stick. Maybe I'm being harsh... I mean it wasn't to that degree, but would not try again.

Tasca Restaurant

What the f*** is all the hype? Horrible food and worse service! I have basic expectations when I go to out to eat. Let me tell you, they didn't come close to meeting any of these. Food is bland and boring. Staff seemed confused and overwhelmed at all times. Sangria was disgusting. The waiter never checked on us, simply dropped food and then the check! But we were still waiting on a few more tapas! Talk about disorganized. We tried a "carpaccio" that must have been shaved and then frozen til an order came in. It was far from fresh and had ice crystals on it. That is a horrible sign of what kind of "quality" food they put out. I really could go on about how much I disliked this restaurant. I just wanted to share what I witnessed at a nearby table: Waiter brings bottle of wine to man who ordered it, and he nods in approval. Waiter takes said bottle of wine to another table who is eating dessert, and starts to open it. He then walks away to another table to place the bottle down to get leverage to open it. He then poured two FULL glasses to the table, with no offer of a taste. He then recorks the damn bottle! Who taught this poor kid wine service? My suggestions for this "romantic, cozy, and fun restaurant" : Get some mature staff who knows a thing or two about serving, trim down your menu to some basics, and try to get them right. I still don't understand all these rave reviews, but then again.. it is Brighton. For those of you with a bit or a more discriminating palate, try Tapeo on Newbury. A bit more pricey, but as they say: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Meh, is my response to personal experience for this location. After each terrible experience I've said to myself the next one will be better I promise. Seriously who am I kidding when, I hear myself say that. My buddy loves this place, so I suck it up and just go along solely for pure convenience. Of course we go for lunch and the young lady at the counter literally fails to place my order in, so my ticket is never made. I kid you not, 4 plates order after me come out before my sandwich. I mean can't really take 20 minutes to make a turkey sandwich (really?). Turns out the girl didn't place my ticket in, and well it's my lunch hour and now I am going to be late. So I have to request my meal to-go. Which isn't a problem. Just perturbed, that I didn't get to eat my meal and obviously have ruined lunch plans. By the way this is still not the end of poor experiences. Swing by for the breakfast, seriously its 5 minutes till 8am. The door is WIDE open no joke, appears to be open. Obviously I assume they're open for business, it's only 5 measly minutes. Guess what they're sticklers for those 5 minutes and was turned away. I genuinely said thank you and said I would be going else where. Which indeed I did, to be honest. I've tried the breakfast here, from tacos to eggs benedict. None of the plates are anything to write home about. I can make a better hollandaise sauce at home compared to them. Perhaps I should just stick to cooking, because the convenience is not worth the grief.
