China Palace

📍 Address: 6605 Airport Blvd, Austin

Stars: (3.5)

IDK why this place has so many high ratings. Came here with high expectations, but had them shattered. This place is not a 5 yelp star restaurant, nor a 4 star, and at best a 3 star. I'm giving this place 2 stars for a very good reason, they're food was not that great. the hot and sour soup was very bland and uninteresting, the Mongolian beef, chicken, and shrimp also lacked flavor, and the combination lo mein was, you guessed it, the same quality as everything else. The serving of fried rice i got with my dinner special tasted ok and the egg roll shared a similar taste of meh. Idk if I just came here during a bad cook shift, or what, but I do not plan on going back and rolling the dice again. I also do not advise anyone else to try this place. The service was good, but also a little annoying. My girlfriend had to take a call at one point in the meal and I was on my phone as well during that time and one of the waitresses came up and asked if we wanted boxes. I said no, not yet and she asked if it was because we didn't like the food. That question made me feel really awkward because I surely didn't want to be too frank with her so early in the meal. Back to the food: it was edible, not very Chinese and not very tasty. I'm an amateur cook and I'm sure I could have cooked the dishes better. Recommendation: NO, I'll be honest, with all the different cuisine available in Austin, all the different Asian cuisine, and all the different Chinese cuisine, I do not recommend you visit China Palace. Keep on driving and try a different place out. It's harsh, but its my honest opinion.

Canton Cooks

📍 Address: 5984 Roswell Rd NE, Atlanta

Stars: (3.5)

Canton Cooks was so much better when I was a kid; it was a great place for authentic chinese food. I feel like it's turned into a more suburbian type of chinese food restaurant. Go here for fast-food Chinese that is done better than your delivery place. My husband loves the General Tso's chicken and fried rice, but I get the seafood hot pot to avoid the usual Chinese take out style food.

Northstar Café

📍 Address: 4241 N High St, Columbus

Stars: (4)

Northstar Cafe, how I miss you! Even though Seattle has so many great vegan options, I still crave the Northstar Thai Burrito and chips. Everyone raves about their veggie burger and it's pretty good but the Thai Burrito is far superior in my opinion. Their green tea is great, too! A few cons: the food is pretty pricey and I'm still not sure how they went from a no-tipping establishment to tipping encouraged. Also, I am flummoxed by the lack of dessert options for vegans (we like desserts, too!) but maybe this has changed in the last year? Crossing my fingers that the next time I visit Columbus, they will either make their own or carry Pattycake desserts.

Austin Java

📍 Address: 1206 Pkwy, Austin

Stars: (3.5)

I love this place. The food is amazing, the menu is huge and it's well priced.

Kouzzina

📍 Address: 2101 Epcot Resort Blvd, Lake Buena Vista

Stars: (3.5)

I must disclose we went to Kouzzina after a few rounds at Epcot. We went for a late dinner around 9:30pm. The service was great and the food was VERY good. I had the pastisio- I thought it was delicious. That's normally what I order in Greek restaurants but funny every place I've had it at, it has been different. The only thing I would adjust is the amount of cinnamon in it (it needs less). Otherwise, it was perfect. We ordered saganaki for an appetizer- it was good but it does not come to the table on fire (Disney rules). Desert is the only negative. We ordered some donuts- not sweet at all. I had to pour sugar packets on them. The server had informed us that they used to come with some dipping sauces but they had eliminated the sauces. The donuts definitely need those sauces.

Rice Bowl

📍 Address: 6 Hemenway St, Boston

Stars: (3)

Oh man. Before I moved out of Boston recently, I used to order from Rice Bowl all the time. They are slightly cheaper than their Teriyaki House counterpart, and their service is quicker most times. It's your typical Americanized-Chinese food, but hey, they're located right smack in between a few colleges and serve as a great lunch or late night meal option. I also like that they work with/are listed with a few different apps. I remember "checking in" on my iPhone and I received a free bubble tea. (I'm not sure what the app's name was, as this was a while ago..it was a locally developed app)
