Epoch Coffee

The atmosphere for this particular neighborhood is wrecked by questionable music played too loud. I couldn't converse with my teenage son, which was the reason I ventured in. There's also no way I could focus on any work or reading, though the large tables seem to invite as much. Finally, I personally don't like being aggressively hailed when I come in. I'm not much of a bro. A head nod or plain "hello" is good. That said, the product is good and the build-out of the new place is nice. The neighborhood needs a coffee shop, so I hope they find a way to make it more inviting.
Vic's Bar-B-Que

I'm a breakfast taco regular at Vic's. Good stuff, at very affordable prices and a real (friendly) mom and pop establishment. For a special treat or rough morning, order the brisket taco. It's stuffed to the top with rough-chopped brisket, no sauce, and is sure to cure what ails you.

After polishing off a bottle of wine, hunger set in. My out of town friend and I were famished and tipsy. Of course the McDonalds is practically next door but that was simply out of the question. Marathon is close by but we wanted quality cuisine and ambience. Where do you go in Portland on a Tuesday evening at 9:00 PM? But Little Bird, of course. Ah, Tuesday was one of those rain free nights and we happily stumbled down to Little Bird. I was a little surprised to see a bit of a wait for a table. As luck would have it, we didn't wait for long and were seated at a cozy little table right quick. The service was lightning quick with menus and a carafe water, sans glace delivered and poured for us immediately. As a matter of fact, we did not have to refill our waters once. Someone was eyeballing us the entire time and zipped over and filled them for us each time the water level dropped. Bread of course was delivered and the butter...it was that really good salty butter; the kind that your doctor warned you about. The only gripe I have is that my Grilled Tombo Tuna had to be sent back. The kitchen decided that I wasn't really serious when I said no onion/chive/shallot/etc. No, really, take this back and do it the way I asked. Always an awkward moment... When it did come out right, it was terrific. The accoutrement of fennel and the citrus with the savory tuna was just delicious. It would have been bad form to lick the plate. One can't top off dinner at a French restaurant without trying the crème brûlée and that is exactly what we did. J'aime bien Little Bird.

I went here with a group of girls for a ladies night out and I have to say the service is really good. Our waiter explained the menu and helped me pick out a drink. The food is good and they make a amazing guacamole right in front of you. Parking is not free after two hours since its at Atlantic staion. I would go to this place again definitely. I high recommend you make reservations.

We went there, no line as there was no one else eating there. I saw that the restaurant had some good reviews before so I thought, why not. Well.... that was a mistake. I should have taken the fact that there was literally no one at the restaurant as a bad sign. We ordered a chicken miso and a chicken clam and a couple of beers. It shouldn't have taken the waitress more than 5 min to get the beers.... we were the only customers in the restaurant. We got our food and it smelled good but tasted bland. The ladle of a spoon they offer is obscene. It takes up half the bowl. The soup was only warm and the chicken was cold in some spots. The egg was ok and the garnish of green onions was good but how could you get that wrong... The chopsticks are old wooden ones that are peeling - not attractive to use. The pint cup they serve the beer in looked dirty at the bottom, like they didn't scrub it hard enough. Overall, i'd have to say this is the worst place to get ramen. I'd rather wait the 30 min at Marutama half a block over. I'll never ever consider this place again, especially because the waitress took her sweet ass time to do everything and we had to wait longer than we should have.
