A real coffee shop gives you more alternatives than coffee and sweet things, at Cafe Java, you get those alternatives. They have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, great desserts, Austin like decor, super service, excellent prices, and yes, good coffee.

We went here for the first time this week on a friend's recommendation. Our initial resistance was the location (in the basement), but the owners made a concerted effort to decorate the place to disguise the feeling of being underground (except for the in the bathroom, which is somewhat inevitable). Food was tasty, but didn't deserve five stars. Our caterpillar maki was about par for the course, but didn't stick together well enough to be dipped in soy sauce. Our second order was the shrimp tempura with udon in broth. This was delicious - and our first time trying a broth-based Japanese dish - but was a little pricey ($12) for what we got (two pieces of shrimp tempura with noodles and broth). Service was friendly and welcoming compared to other Japanese restaurants. The lady - who must have been the manager - was very attentive and congenial. Our biggest beef with the place was that it wasn't worth what we were paying for. It's not that the food or service weren't good, it's just that they didn't seem to justify the very high prices compares to FuGaKyu, Genki Ya and Ginza. Maybe other folks take advantage of their full bar, which I'm sure ups their operating costs and leads to higher food prices, but we were just looking for a nice alternative for sushi. I should start by saying that this restaurant group is my favorite place to eat! I am normally in one of the restaurants at least once a week. Tonight was absolutely one of the worst experiences In any of their restaurants EVER! I'm not going to bore you with the specifics but let's just say they were so off their mark! This particular location has always been a hit or miss and tonight was not a different scenario but just amplified x's about 10. The server was marginal at best and more below sub par than a Waffle House server. The table was a mess the entire night, the food came out wrong, cold , Scorched and that's light assessment. I wish there were something I could say positive and God knows I want to but to be honest to you, there's nothing more than the tea (when lucky enough to not have an empty glass) was brewed well. Again, your hearing this from someone who is passionate for Houstons and when ask where I'd want to go it's always here. I would urge any of you to go to another location, No one is perfect but any of the others is not as bad as this one! 3/20/18 So my predictions are true. I've said for the longest that the area manager would run this area of locations into the ground! This restaurant has consistently been awful and now ITS CLOSING! Maybe someone with take note. The others have a small edge on this one. The day George takes note and fired this incompetent egotistical director Atlanta will bounce back!!!!!!

Friendly service. The lamb was really tasty, but the best part was the garlic sauce that it was smothered with. Absolutely delicious lamb "salad" (it was mostly lamb with a little lettuce and tomato). Would come back if I lived anywhere nearby

the wraps are huge! you can eat one half for lunch and the other for dinner. the baked goods are crazy good. this place is kind of off the beaten path. when it seems your google maps directions have gotten you lost in an industrial area, don't fear, tasty sweets are near.
