SPITZ

📍 Address: 2103 N Killingsworth St, Portland

Stars: (4)

3 stars only because the food was super bomb but the lady working the front (Heather) was very short and rude with us. Listening to her talk to everybody else her tone was more friendly. Stood there for a soda refill for a long time before she filled them up. Not even a quick I'll be right there when she didn't even have that much to do at that time. This was our first time there since we are from Cali.

Jack Allen's Kitchen Oak Hill

📍 Address: 7720 Hwy 71 W, Austin

Stars: (4.5)

Jack Allen's Kitchen is amazing. Being farm to market, the food is exceptionally fresh, and the service is fantastic. For appetizers, we had the chicken nachitos, which were a HUGE portion, and the blue crab gratin. Alot of crab dips are very heavily laden with mayo and often taste "fishy"- this had huge chunks of crab meat and not a whole lot of filler. It was excellent. I had the Country Club Fancy Chicken Salad, which was also a huge portion. The fruits and veggies were all fresh, and didn't taste like they came packaged, which I think alot of places do. Also, the fish tacos were great- and they were NOT catfish!!! Being from Southern California, it is always a let down when restaurants in Texas offer fish tacos on the menu and then serve catfish- gross! I am not a fan of catfish so this was a nice change. What is also super cool is that you can get mason jars to go of pickled veggies or salad dressing. I also like that their menu changes seasonally in order to ensure the freshest local offerings. I would absolutely recommend Jack Allen's Kitchen, it is worth the drive and the price.

Local Roots

📍 Address: 15 E Olentangy St, Powell

Stars: (4)

Local Roots WAS my favorite spot to eat in Powell. But for the past 3 times I've been there, the service has been terrible. Primarily the folks at the host stand. All three times they've messed up our seating arrangements. In addition, one of the ladies there has such an attitude. Like WE were doing HER a favor. She wouldn't acknowledge our presence, any questions we'd ask were answered with short "yes" or "no" without looking at us. Any additional minor requests were met with utter contempt. This ruins everything! Even though our actual waiter was fine, first impressions count. A host/hostess should welcome us, make us feel like we made a good choice. Be grateful we chose your restaurant vs the one right across the street. Local Roots, this particularly individual has done it for me. NO MORE. And I'm sad. Actually quite disappointed (hence the 1 star). Because the food is wonderful, portions are good and prices are right. Beer selection is wonderful too. But the their service is downright horrible.

Papa John's Pizza

📍 Address: 2030 E. Oltorf St, Suite 114, Ste 114, Austin

Stars: (3)

I traveled to Austin and decided to get a pizza .This is the worst Papa John's Pizza Ever. I called for delivery and ordered 1 small cheese pizza, waited for more than hour and when i call them they was like " couple of minutes and they will arrive sir" after 1 hour and 15 minutes i got my pizza and it was cold. I had to reheat it in the microwave to eat it. If there were less than 1 star i could give.

Nick's Food To Go

📍 Address: 240 Martin Luther King Jr Dr SE, Atlanta

Classic no-nonsense street-food - Great take-out spot for those with a hankering for authentic Greek food.

Tamale House East

📍 Address: 1707 E 6th St, Austin

Stars: (4)

I'm a big fan of Veracruz across the street, but this place is my #1 Fish Taco experience in all of Austin - and in the short 4 months since I've been here and all the places I have tried (and I've tried dozens) this place is hands down the best. Great tasting fish (seasoned perfectly) and all fresh garnishes on it, and they don't short on the fish portions! Chips and Guac are great too - however I wish the chips were better; they should get Veracruz's recipe on the chips! Great seating arrangements outside, and its right next to a very cool bar on 5th Street (Yellow Jacket Social Club). Oh, and the food is reasonably priced too! I usually hit this place once a week which is conveniently located down the street from where I live. Keep up the great work T.H.E., and don't change a dam thing on those fish tacos!!
