Northstar Café

I am slowly working my way through all the Northstar locations. I might give this one a slight edge over the Beechwold one because you can sit outside and not have to compete with traffic noise. The stars on this visit were the biscuits. Holy cow, they are so good. I lived in the South for 8 years and any good Southern cook would be proud to serve these. The boyfriend and I both had the Cowboy breakfast which had eggs and giant strips of crispy bacon alongside these biscuits. It was a filling and tasty way to start our Sunday. I predict the boyfriend will be back often for those biscuits, he's more in love with them than I am.
Lamberts Downtown Barbecue
📍 Address: 401 W 2nd St, Austin

Really good food, but pricey for BBQ. Interior is nice but the music is super loud for a place like Lambert's, and I love me some music. It's just the clientele is a little older, because of the price, and it's hard to have conversations with your table quests. Our group loved the pork ribs, short rib, and the ribeye. The new mashed potatoes are to die for!!! Mac and cheese was recommended so someone ordered, I would say steer clear if you're someone who appreciates flavor. All in all we had a good experience. Now I can say I've been there.
Ray's on the River
📍 Address: 6700 Powers Ferry Rd, Sandy Springs

My wife & I and another couple had 5:30 'reservations' today @Ray's for Thanksgiving dinner, which we were asked to confirm by phone, not once, but twice in the week preceding. When we tried to increase our res to 6 to include their 2 sons from UGA, we were told emphatically no way. So when we arrived @ 5:15 and noticed what looked like a line outside waiting to get in: "Surely not" thought I, "These must be people waiting for the valet to retrieve their cars", because the importance of reservations had been driven home so emphatically three times by Ray's in the past 7 days. Imagine our surprise, then, when we were told there was a 45 min. wait, which was attributed to so many people lingering at their tables longer than expected. As Yoda would say: "the bulls**t is strong in this one". Think about the implausibility of what Ray's told us: what should be a 1:15 to 1:30 hr. meal was being stretched into 2 to 2:15 hours because after gorging on turkey and stuffing, people were dawdling over their coffee and pumpkin pie. A more likely explanation is that Ray's grossly overbooked, cynically relying on the rock-solid logic that there would be nowhere else to go on short notice without reservations on Thanksgiving Day. Or, the place was so crowded that it was taking way longer to negotiate the buffet line. That the wait was even longer was borne home when we encountered a couple with 4:30 reservations who were still waiting at 5:20, -- and they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. Further testimony to the BS of Ray's explanation was the fact that they had set up a tent in the parking lot to handle overflow, suggesting that they knew far enough in advance to erect the tent (a several hour job, I'm guessing) that they were overbooked. Since they called us, not once, but twice, to confirm our reservation, it seems unlikely that any of this was a surprise. That being the case, one cannot help but wonder why we weren't advised of the situation and told to come an hour later? The only conclusions I can draw are: they don't care, or are incredibly incompetent, neither of which recommend Ray's or its service. I detest being lied to, even less when it's done so nakedly, as if to say, "We don't care what you think." I refuse to patronize establishments with so little regard for the comfort of their patrons, and I will NEVER eat there, and intend to tell everyone I know to avoid Ray's like an outbreak of salmonella. If I could give them a minus rating I would. Epilogue: We retreated to Marietta Diner, where, without a reservation, we waited 5 minutes in a place where the lobby was crowded and every table was full. We had a sumptuous turkey dinner with all the trimmings, for less than half of Ray's over-priced buffet, left our waiter a 50% tip and got away for $56 for two. After posting this, I read similar comments complaining aboutRay's and reservations from Thanksgiving a year ago, and on numerous other occasions. This is a problem that Ray's has made a CONSCIOUS DECISION to do nothing about, other than to call people ahead of time in search of cancellations. When confronted, they offer no apology or offer to make amends. Their business philosophy appears to be taken from W.C. Fields: "Never give a sucker an even break, or smarten up a chump." These are truly awful people: they don't care about your patronage, nor do they deserve it.
Mike's Pastry
📍 Address: 300 Hanover St, Boston

Saw Mike's Pastry boxes everywhere so we stopped in, it was decently crowded but they move people quickly. Not the place to come for costumer service but I wasn't too offended, it makes the lines move quickly. Got the almond cannoli and it was not good. Not bad but for the reputation and the price ($4), not worth it at all. The filling was good, a tad sweet. The shell was too crunchy making the pairing incompatible. I didn't like it. They have a lot of option though, so there is a lot to try.

Flaming Jack is fun, actual flame. Tofu teriyaki with ginger tofu was also delicious. Try them soon, I will go back.
Genji

I have never felt so racially discriminated towards. They ignored me, but managed to serve everyone that wasn't white already. They didn't bring us water even though we asked twice. We ended up walking out after half an hour of nothing. I will never go here again and urge everyone to spend their hard earned money in a place that will treat everyone with respect and equality. I had high hopes. I am extremely disappointed.
