I love this place! I love the outdoor picnic area with live music - such a great ambience! I got the combo plate with beef brisket, pork ribs and sausage. Not a big pork eater but surprisingly I liked the pork ribs way more than the beef brisket. The coleslaw was surprisingly good as well. Another surprise, it was so affordable! All that for just $14.99! We found an outdoor table and were intending to wait for two hours. But the server was nice about taking our order so we avoided the wait! When the pager finally went off we were almost done with our meal, so we "paid it forward" and gave the pager to patrons that were waiting. Days later, though, I went to Rudy's BBQ and found their (extra moist) brisket to be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

If you're looking for overpriced Americanized tex-mex, yeah go across the street to maya sol. But if you want real mexican food and a good deal, this is the best place in Boston.
Trident Booksellers & Café

I appreciate a good bookstore, but one with a not so great restaurant might be biting off more than it can chew especially with a location on Newbury Street. We've come in for breakfast a good amount of time because let's face it, most people in Boston are probably suffering from hang overs and can only wake up towards brunch/lunch; therefore I love getting food during the times where I don't have to deal with idiots who rarely eat out any ways. The food is okay and slightly overpriced but it makes sense for the location. Their lattes/smoothies aren't that great either; they're light in flavor. We usually sit on the bar which is just not an pleasant experience ever, as I watch the workers flit back and forth frantically and other customers get pissy because their food didn't magically appear. Ironic because I am pretty sure they sell "Eating Animals" and "Omnivore's Dilemma" and they could learn a thing or two. Every other visit, we'll have good service but personally I congratulate those who have the patience to work there. Their hours are pretty accommodating to customers of all walks. Their books are of a decent selection and they are also able to order books which I picked mine up today for a good price. Actually, their booksellers are really quite nice and friendly. It gets really cramped in there, and even when it's not busy, the aisles are not very large at all. Actually, I love that the books are in the way, rather than people. :) I don't think I would ever eat there for dinner because it would be a crowd I would abhor: jerks who just got out of school/work and want to just hang out and be in the way and/or tourists who just can't get over how exciting it is to have a full restaurant and book store in one.

Wasn't very busy at all when we arrived. Took our waiter a few minutes to grab menus & waters after he seated us. We got the sampler appetizer which was very delicious! I got the Tom Kha soup with coconut milk which was missing a few authentic ingredients (like stone mushrooms) but other than that it wasn't bad. Wasn't the best I've had nor the worst. I ordered the red curry chicken for my entrée, which I shared with my bf because the portions were huge! It was flavorful, tasted good. Had enough to take a doggie bag home. I would eat here again.
