I recalled from years ago that Sunrise made a good Eggplant sub, and that their subs were HUGE! Before healing over and dying of hunger, we slammed on the breaks on Route 1 and made it into the parking lot of Sunrise. Yes, the subs were still huge as I remembered (XL almost 2 feet long for only $7.50!), but the eggplant was like a bad dream. Not what I remembered.... The thick slices of eggplant, hardly breaded, seemed as if they had been simmering all day in a pot of oil - so much so that while I ate the sandwich, what didn't absorb already into the huge sub bulky roll, trickled off to form a puddle of oil - yikes! With no exaggeration, I felt like there was yet again another strong possibility of me healing over and dying - but this time of a looming stomach ache. Gurgle, gurgle. My mouth felt like it needed a good soap bath to rinse off all the oils, as did my arteries. Bummer! A disappointment to a once good food memory. Hopefully they can hang on by their other subs, as this particular one did not do this place any justice.

I just ordered a simple breakfast, as I wasn't that hungry. The scrambled eggs looked not very appetizing and I asked for a side of Hollandaise sauce to make them a little tastier. That really didn't help. The homefries were good, and I ate all of them, but the rest I left because it just wasn't that appetizing. The service was good, but I don't think I would return.
Hy's Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar

My husband always told me how good the steak was at Hy's, and finally I got the chance to try it. I ordered Filet mignon ( medium rare) with double baked potato and asparagus. Everything is DELICIOUSSS! The steak has a slightly grilled outside and perfectly tender and jiucy inside. I enjoyed every bite of it. The asparagus is very well done too. It's obvious that Hy's uses fresh and high quality meat and vegetables which taste excellent on their own ( no need to put any source). I am a big steak lover, and I had the best piece of Filet mignon in my life at Hy's. Try to go at lunch time as it's cheaper.
Dirty Martin's Place
📍 Address: 2808 Guadalupe St, Austin
⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)
First of all, it's not Dirty Martin's Place... it is Dirty Martin's Kum Back. Ok, let's push forward. I give this one a high rating for 2 reasons. 1. Great for any time of the day, especially for a post hang over recharge. 2. Quentin Tarantino frequents this establishment several times throughout the year and on one occasionan I happened to be one of few in the restaurant when he was there. I shook his hand and we chatted for several minutes, when he left later in the evening he waived goodbye to me. Can't beat that. Anyways, you can get great burgers here and the apetizers are what you'd expect from a hole in the wall burger joint. This place has history though, so do yourself a favor and check it out. Side note: The parking gets terrible at times so you might have to drive a few blocks down Guadalupe and fend for street parking somewhere. Worth the trouble though.

Went to the soft opening on Saturday night...amazing! The food was light and flavorful. I was also able to speak with the owner for a bit, and the way he spoke of his passion for the food and the importance of getting the details right was so wonderful to hear. Beautiful food and a great owner. Very nice!!

Pretty A-Ok thai place. Went there for lunch with one of my buddies. I ordered the pineapple fried rice medium spice. The spice level was just right, but it seemed like all the flavors didn't mesh well together. I would get like a burst of raisin, then pineapple, then spice, and then it would finally end up with a taste of pork. I typically order Pineapple Fried rice at Thai restaurants and all the flavors typically tend to mesh well together, but at this restaurant they were like little flavor pockets. My buddy ordered the Green curry with pork that came with a small side of steamed rice. The curry was flavorful, but it seemed more like a soup then an actual curry so that was a little disappointing. It didn't have a lot of meat to it either it just seemed like a lot of filler vegetables instead of anything that adds flavor to the actual curry. Overall my experience here was A-Ok the service was nothing to write home about, and the prices were fairly comparable to any other Thai place around this area for lunch. Would I come here again... only because it is close, but if I feel like actually going out for Thai food I would definitely go some where else.
