Beau Jo's - Boulder

I was extremely disappointed with this place, as I had heard several positive reviews and was excited to try it out. Also, I am a fan of Man vs. Food, and love to check out restaurants featured on the show. Unfortunately, the pizza was below average. I've had better from Pizza Hut and Dominoes, and that is saying a lot. I am giving Beau Jo's 2 stars because the service was solid.

Relatives suggested this place from previous review, without having actually visited. We booked a table for 4:30 when the doors opened and there was a line out the door. We ordered four hors d'oevres. They were amazing: the fries, the Brussels sprouts leaves with pecorino, the pate and the beets. For dinner, the pork belly with basalmic vinaigrette. It melted in my mouth. Angela treated us like family. Offered suggestions and was super attentive and knowledgeable. She made sure we even had bread for what we were taking home because we were so full. The bar has Oban, laphroig, and Glenmorangie for the single malt scotch drinkers. Ahhhhhhhh. The food was excellent, but the icing on the cake was the server- Angela!

I'm not ashamed to admit it... Ok, I'm a little ashamed to admit it. But I am admitting it. That's gotta count for something. What, I don't know. What I do know is that I am totally hooked on Popeye's shrimp po-boy, and this location consistently serves them up super quick, which is really my main consideration when hitting a drive thru, after the food quality of course. And never having frequented any Popeye's location before, I was pleasantly surprised to find a generous helping of petite but quality shrimp on a crisp flaky hoagie roll, dressed with fresh cut lettuce, crisp pickles and a tasty half tangy half spicy all delicious sauce. That's right, I said it. My name is Mark D and I'm a Popeye's shrimpaholic. Don't judge.

I've been here more than a few times as I live nearby. The food is decent, but not worth the price. The burritos are huge, but they are sometimes falling apart. They aren't made according to their menu, sometimes they contain all of the ingredients, plus some extra, or half of them. In short, they are inconsistent. Today, the burrito I ordered the the other day (r. Kai asada) had jalapeños in it. They are not supposed to be there. The last time it had peppers in it. Both are not listed on the menu. Inconsistency is a killer in a restaurant. The salsa that comes with the burritos is not very good. You'd be better off going to the produce market and buying their salsa (I recommend all of them from there!). The meat doesn't seem to be of good quality, or at the very least it isn't trimmed well. It is fatty, too chewy and full of gristle. I hate that they charge for using debit cards. I know many places that pass their fee onto their customers, which is fine. But those places are not charged a fee over $5, and since most of their burritos are $8, I don't see how that would be an issue.

I'm mostly I'm unhappy I paid $11 for a small, mostly unremarkable hamburger with cheese, twice as many fries as I can eat, and a soda. The fries are really good - they're what draw me back into Five Guys when I start to forget how darn expensive they are.
