Oxford Spa Cafe

📍 Address: 102 Oxford St, Cambridge

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

there are pros and cons to this place..... Pros The sandwiches are quite delicious - and they come in half size. It's a great neighborhood place, perfect for hanging on a Sunday to read the paper A couple of outside tables, for more enjoyable summer hanging the food is fresh and tasty Cons Half sandwiches are mere pennies from full sandwiches - neither are cheap. Coffee is limited to drip - no espresso to be found Summer hours have random Sundays off, it seemed But if you are in the hood, come grab a meal - it's definitely worth it. Off hours, the convenience store across from Cambridge Common has wrapped sandwiches from the place too. the European (ham, brie, butter, baguette) is fairly sublime. and ice cream sandwiches are available for the casual warm day walkby.

Two Urban Licks

📍 Address: 820 Ralph McGill Blvd NE, Atlanta

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)

As sweat drips off my brow...Never again. So much about this experience disappoints. So much. A "coach" class experience. Very unsophisticated clientele. Let's start with the physical environment: So hot it was miserable. Ridiculous. Too loud, can't talk to anyone. 20 minute wait at the bar for a drink. Restrooms were not clean, no toilet paper, and there were stacks of used solo cups on the sink. Was there some sort of frat party here??? Plus you could barely get to the restrooms because the hallway was completely overtaken by a number of people just hanging out in that hallway playing on their phones. Then the food. Oh my. Confusing. Good food. Upside down proportions. The appetizer crab toasts were good, normal sized. The hearts of romaine salad was way too big for a starter salad. But the scallops entree. Very tasty. Good scallops, good grits, but surrounded by Chef-Boy-R-D sauce?? And there were 3, yes, only 3 scallops on my plate as an entree. Not big scallops, quarter sized scallops. What? Think twice about coming here. So many high quality restaurants in the ATL with a classier atmosphere, clientele, and better all around dining experience than 2.

Engine 2 Taphouse

Service at the bar and in the dining room were both excellent, and the servers have some great food recommendations. I was less than thrilled with the meat platter with two sides, but I'm really picky when it comes to pulled pork, brisket, etc. The waitress with the deep Southern accent was incredibly kind and attentive and suggested I try the mac & cheese as a side because she said it was so good and I honestly wish I had a whole bowl instead! I did like the drink options, as there were a lot of good options on tap. The best part is the games they have outside and in the back room!

Voodoo Doughnut - Old Town

📍 Address: 22 SW 3rd Ave, Portland

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

Oh, Voodoo. You broke my heart. How I wanted to like you. We came here on a ridiculously steamy Friday night (88 degrees at 10:30 pm ... in Portland?) to pay tribute. We waded through what appears to be Portland's version of what every city has ... an obnoxious club district. It was very Portland-style, though, and I leave you to interpret that in your own way. We got the Voodoo Dozen and brought the box back to our gracious hostess. We all agreed that the novelty far outstripped the flavor. These babies just ain't fresh. No amount of Butterfinger, bubble-gum flavor, or M & Ms can hide that. Not to mention the fact that I wanted to clock all the little club bitches teetering on their tiny heels. (Isn't this supposed to be the Northwest? Get out your Timberlands, ladies, even on a crazy-hot night like tonight! Represent, damn you!) Two stars for sheer originality. I would still get married here. But I am already married. Signed, Crazy From the Heat.

Voodoo Doughnut - Old Town

📍 Address: 22 SW 3rd Ave, Portland

OVERRATED Way too sugary and too much. The only reason I would recommend going is for the "experience". Where else can you find the most random donuts... ever?? We sampled a few. We just asked the lady working to pick us 4. We sampled one with peanut butter and Oreos, coco puffs, mini M&M's and lastly, one with captain crunch. I prefer my cookies and cereal with milk and definitely NOT on a donut with way too much frosting. I was on a sugar high for like a week after this (OK exaggerating a little), and will never be back.

Voodoo Doughnut - Old Town

This definitely is a tourist attraction and I'm sure they'd probably not like to be called that but it is what it is. We paid for the 90 min parking because you obviously need it since there is obviously a line that you can normally see from the street. Suprisingly it's not chaotic standing in line. You don't have to scrunch over to the side to let passersby squeeze by. It almost seems like no one uses the sidewalk down there maybe because they know several silly gooses are waiting out on the street to get a taste of the voodoo. There is live entertainment while you wait from the hoards of wayward, homeless, or vagrant "residents" of the downtown area. We were treated to the unsmooth sounds of a couple covering the latest hits of the 80's, 90's, and today. Rather unpleasant, but people gotta do what they gotta do to make a dollar. God bless 'em. What I did find nice is that they have a small laminated menu that you can pass around the line so that people have an idea as to what they might want to order before they get inside the doors. I kind of makes you feel like you have to be ready when you get inside the door or feel the wrath of a "Soup Nazi" type experience. "No doughnut for you!" as they snatch the doughy confection from your ever-waiting hands. Only kidding. There is also a person that works for Voodoo outside who keeps you informed about the doughnuts and tells you interesting things about the selections. He also said the menu is online which helped since the menu didn't seem to make it to us before we were almost next in line. The menu can be found on your smartphone or "dumbphone" prior to entering the building at voodoodonuts.com. Cash only as many people have said. The doughnuts are really inexpensive though, so scrape some change off the floor of your car and got get a doughnut. Now the doughnuts themselves I didn't find anything spectacular about them but they were good and not dry by any means. It's more of an experience then a go-to place to eat because obviously you could get a doughnut elsewhere with less of a wait and the same quality for the same price. Just being honest. Mad props to the people that work there though for standing at a register on rotating shifts 24 hours a day 7 days a week exchanging doughnuts for cash. The frowny faces are free with purchase.
