Milestones Restaurants

📍 Address: 1145 Robson St, Vancouver

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

This place brings back lots of memories. I used to work downtown and I remember my farewell lunch with my colleagues (no boss, with boss was somewhere else) was here. The dining area looked the same as 5.5 years ago when I left my old place. So me and S came here for dinner before our party at another location. We got the Amex dinner special. $50 for two people. It came with an appetizer, two entree and drunken donuts as desserts. We got the Hot Spinach & Artichoke dip We each got the 10oz grill steak Drunken donuts for desserts. The Hot spinach & Artichoke dip was really awesome. I really enjoyed it. Thumbs up to it. Also the portion was huge The grill steak was ok. We both had it medium rare. Mine was a bit over cooked but S did look medium rare. The steak came with yam fries. I mean yam fries are my favorite but they were quite salty for some reason. I mean its good that they put sea salt but it was in fact too much. In terms of the drunken donuts. I am personally not a fan of donuts. One or two is ok. Too much donuts. The atmosphere of this Milestone is not bad. Nice and quiet. There are no TV in dining room like most restaurant dining room area. So it doesn't have that pub feel. A more peaceful experience. The TV are all downstairs where the bar is. Service is pretty good here. I mean the waitress came to check up on us couple times to make sure our water is filled and S got his Ginger-ale refill. Also I like the fact that you can collect scene points here. Not bad will come back.

JINYA Ramen Bar

📍 Address: 5975 Roswell Rd, Ste B-217, Sandy Springs

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5)

The spicy chicken ramen has to be my favorite, but the chicken dumpling ramen is another great option. Also, the pork belly is highly recommended!

Five Guys

📍 Address: 1253 Caroline St, Atlanta

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

Staff is rude and unconcerned here. They messed up my order, and when I went to tell them, they were annoyed and angry at me! Why? Besides the attitude, this location is stingy when it comes to the serving size of fries, and their fries are always overcooked to the point of being burnt. Yuck! And if you tell them, the staff's feeling are hurt, and too bad, that's how it is! They could use some lessons in cooking and in talking to people. Maybe get training at the Lenox Mall location, or any other Five Guys in the US, for that matter.

Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant

📍 Address: 1710 Pearl St, Boulder

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4)

I was recently in Boulder for a long weekend, and my friends and I headed here after a quick search for vegetarian restaurants on Yelp. I love going to places where I know I'll be able to order anything off the menu. We did walk back and forth down the street several times trying to find it--following the little pin on my iPhone with no success. But, I wouldn't say that it's hard to find, just that they don't have a lot of obvious signage, other than a giant leaf hanging over the door :-). Luckily, after about three passes down the street, a helpful Boulderite pointed out that we were basically five feet from the door :-) Now, as for the food. I was starving after a relatively long flight and car ride from Denver, so I immediately ordered the Tempura Delicata Squash--delicious! I and my non-veggie friends gobbled that right up. The tempura was light and fluffy and not too filling, the squash itself was cooked perfectly, and the sauce on top was a perfect compliment. Because it's squash season, my main dish was the Autumn Salad with tempeh. Also delicious. Fresh, with creamy chevre. My friend ordered the Apple Wood Smoked Tofu, which also looked great. The tofu was one large piece, and my friend, being a non-vegetarian, picked it up with his hands and took a big bite, thinking it was bread. This cracked me up, and I think it speaks to how nice and golden brown the tofu was. We also ordered the Colorado Cheese Plate, which came with a great selection of cheese and accompaniments. The service was attentive but not overbearing and the atmosphere was soothing (I'm a sucker for water features!). Overall, a great place for vegetarians and non-veggies alike and a great way to kick-off my long weekend in Boulder!

XLB

📍 Address: 4090 N Williams Ave, Portland

⭐ Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (3.5)

I went on their 2nd day so that should be considered when reading this review. Also I'm Taiwanese and have had my share of amazing XLBs with my favorite being DTF, so I am pretty critical when it comes to this type of cuisine. It's not fair to compare this neighborhood joint to an international Michelin star rated chain but I would have to say another restaurant in PDX makes better pork XLBs. I had their Shanghai pork and shrimp noodle which was pretty tasty but a bit salty and the Beef Ho Fun which was disappointing. It lacked flavor and the noodles were stuck together. The best part about this place is that they serve Taiwan beer. The decor and ambience was fun and interesting. Staff was friendly and did not seem too frazzled for being this busy in their 2nd day. Being a neighborhood spot, I would love for them to do well and I will come back and try it again.
