Ramen Tatsu-Ya

📍 Address: 8557 Research Blvd, Ste 126, Austin

Ambiance: casual dining experience with good music playing. Each table has chopsticks, napkins, and soup spoons Service: with the line outside, a waitress took drink orders for those waiting. A speaker is playing music for those waiting outside to make it more bearable. Our drink was never brought to us, and when we brought this up inside, it was given to us for free. Waitstaff was very personable and had mastery of the menu Food: we don't eat pork, and as such, our options were quite limited. The egg in their ramen and their fried rice are flavored with pork and cannot be ordered without pork. We ordered the chicken broth based ramen (without egg and pork) and the veggie ramen. We spiced things up with the chili bomb and the corn bomb. The broth had good depth of flavor. The add ins were delicious.. especially the brussel sprouts! The portions were large, and we were full by the time we were finished Overall: very good ramen that has options other than pork based broths. The wait was 45 minutes or so, but seemed to go by quickly. A delicious spot to where we will be returning!

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! Chips and homemade guacamole is a FANTASTIC way to start a meal. The Chicken Bandera is wonderful and the corn and black bean empanadas are awesome!!! Add a few of their margaritas to your meal and you will be a very happy person!

This is the most affordable place around AND has a big menu! I love the guacamole with homemade chips, the vegetable quesadilla, and the salads. They're always fresh and not too greasy. I wouldn't exactly call it Mexican unless you say "American" first. I like the sangria, personally, but be prepared for some serious ID checking at the bar if you're from out of state. I've had mixed experiences with servers. Sometimes there will be someone waiting to open the door for you like you're the queen, and other times they are standing there but are too busy chatting to notice your crown. That's fine (I prefer to open my own doors, thank you), but when the server brings you the check before you even get your fork to your mouth, something's off. Didn't you want to ask how everything is or if we needed anything? Definitely coming back more than I care to admit, but I won't have high expectations of getting a waiter with some personality. Do they ever smile? Maybe they should wear sombreros to lighten their mood...

Zucca Italian Ristorante

Best chicken parmasian in the world! Been there several times and it's my favorite. Not the usual thickly breaded chicken, with a slice of cheese. This is thoughtfully created, and a one-of-kind.

Dirty Frank's Hot Dog Palace

📍 Address: 248 S 4th St, Columbus

All of my friends have been raving about Dirty Frank's and I've been wanting to try it... I had my chance and wasn't "floored." Maybe there was too much hype and I just didn't get it. Yes, there are A LOT of options on how to make a hot dog (veggie and vegan, too) to the point that it can be overwhelming. You can "make your own" hot dog if you want. I asked one of the servers what he would recommend that was veggie and he really didn't answer and said there were stars next to the most popular. I ended up settling on the veggie Chicago (to-go) and wasn't too impressed. The french fries are just like the one's you would get at a Penn Station or Great Steak. Maybe I needed to eat there to experience the atmosphere more, which seemed to be crowded and fairly loud. There is limited seating (may a total of 50 seats) and it was filled on a Thursday at 3 p.m. - it seems to be a popular place for hot dogs. There were business people, elderly, families, and lone souls eating at Dirty Franks; it certainly attracts everyone, but, personally, I didn't think it was all it was hyped up to be - I probably won't be returning.
