Excellent food! We had the grilled cheese and gumbo, both were delicious and had a great mixture of flavors. Atmosphere is awesome in the south Austin social food truck park.
Ramen Tatsu-Ya

Okay, I feel compelled to write a follow up. I recently found out Tatsu-Ya has their thin ("Hakata") style noodles custom made in California. Whew, that's a relief. Here's a quick noodle lesson: The very thin hakata noodle originates from the western part of Kyushu island near Fukuoka City. Kyushu is the western most island in south Japan if you look on a map. The Hakata noodle is meant to be prepared "Al dente", or "to the tooth" which is a harder feeling noodle as opposed to Udon which is a soft mushy noodle. The thin Hakata noodle is meant to complement the hearty broth by not over powering it. The noodle is thin and mostly "tasteless" to convey the broth flavor to the taste buds. Which is also another reason you "slurp" your ramen. IF YOU DON"T SLURP YOUR RAMEN YOU ARE MISSING THE FLAVOR! Slurp loud and proud!!! Do I still prefer the fatter Osaka style Ramen noodle? Yes. But, do I now think Tatsu-Ya's Hakata thin noodles are genuine and yummy? YES!!! Oh BTW, "Irasshaimase" is pronounced... "E-RASH SHY-MASS-EH". ;)

Jake's Famous Crawfish
📍 Address: 401 SW 12th Ave, Portland

We were visiting from out of town and only had time for 2 dinners in the Portland area. Before we left home, we'd determined that Jake's would be dinner on day #2. Very old school seafood place. Not cheap, but well worth the money. Brie and apple chutney appie was excellent, the Bouiliabaisse and prawn cocktail were hearty portions and quite yummy. French onion soup was good, very cheesy, but not much broth. On the basis of a recommendation, we'd specifically requested to have Scott H as our server. Wow, he was just the bomb. Professional, knowledgeable, efficient, friendly, he was terrific. We'd love to have a beer with Scott if we were back in town. If seafood's your thing, this is the place. Highly recommend making a reservation.
