Mashita Teriyaki 5

📍 Address: 3010 NW Nicolai St, Portland

Stars: (4.5)

A big plate of teriyaki chicken, 3 pot stickers and a drink for 7.50. I can see why they are so busy for lunch. The service was still fast. They have great hot sauce as well.

Convenient location, decidedly average food and sort of indifferent service. We're still looking for really good Mexican in #Boulder...

Café Luna

This has become my favorite brunch place in Boston! If you want to go in for brunch on the weekends, make a reservation or come late -- after 2 pm. The wait time without a reservation is a minimum of 20 minutes, and you'll have to wait outside because the cafe is very small and cramped. Even with a reservation, I've often ended up waiting for 10 minutes until a table opens up. The cafe is very small and cozy. Tables are right next to each other and they'll often move tables so that people can squeeze into the inside chairs. Avoid coming here with large groups. Seating is limited so it's best to come with one other person. There's not much privacy so you can often hear the conversation at the next table, though the entire cafe is pretty loud. There are also crayons so you can decorate the table cover to pass the time. The service is extremely friendly! You can always ask the staff about ingredient substitutions or additions. However, the chef in the kitchen won't always allow it (unless it's a dietary restriction). I also found issue with the cleanliness of this cafe after finding a hair in the home fries with jalapeno cheese sauce. After I pointed it out to the wait staff, I got an apology and they quickly took the plate away. However, they did not replace the dish or offer a refund for it. I expected better service because it took away my companion and my appetite that day and from then on, we scrutinize our plates before we dig in. The food here is DELICIOUS. I have yet to find a better brunch and I often insist on splitting 3 entrees between two people. I always order the home fries with jalapeno cheese sauce. It contrasts greatly with all the sweet items on the menu. I highly recommend the Lobster Eggs Benedict or their Steak and Lobster BLT Benedict. Both are equally delicious and I always make sure either my companion or I order it. The Fresh Berry Stuffed French Toast is very sweet and will satisfy any sweet tooth. I've also tried the Lobster & Avocado Omelet but I much prefer the Benedict. Make a reservation if you're coming in for weekend brunch, be prepared to be close to utter strangers as you dig into the most amazing brunch ever (but make sure to check your food before you dig in!), and order the Lobster Eggs Benedict!

Crepes a La Cart

📍 Address: 2018 Broadway St, Boulder

Stars: (3.5)

This place is phenomenal - if the service was faster, I would give it 5 stars, but unfortunately when they're crowded it takes a long time to get your food, so;...4 stars. I discovered this place a few weeks ago and have been back 3 times. The salmon-brie-egg crepe is INCREDIBLE, as is the Bananas Foster crepe. They're open until 10, so i'd recommend going there for dessert after going to a nearby restaurant. yum! I'll be going back.

Basta Pasta Trattoria

📍 Address: 319 Western Ave, Cambridge

I coerced my angry chef bf to order dinner from here b/c he was sick with the flu. Sick people need garlic and I figured his internal battle with influenza would put his usual scathing opinions (of food and restaurants) towards the wayside. hmm, maybe a little? We ordered the Aglio Olio w/ linguine, meatballs, garlic bread and their buffalo mozz salad. We would have treated ourselves to the Arancini but they were out of rice. I highly recommend Arancini anywhere to anyone, for they are the most delicious thing. Fried risotto balls w/ cheese inside= yum dipped in sauce (and I don't even like rice or Italian variety's). The pasta was $8.95 which was a good deal for the portion. I liked the meatballs and the buffalo mozz salad was perfect (such a shame though- that so many innocent buffalo's had to die). The angry bf's only complaint was that they used a bit too much oregano on the bread, pasta and (meat) balls and though it kills me to agree with his critical antics: He's right. If you require some Italian take out or casual booth seating, please do not waste your time ordering from anywhere else in Cambridge. This place is the best in 02141, 02140, 02138, 02139..etc...
