Newk's Eatery

📍 Address: 1405 Spring Rd SE, Smyrna

First time. Last time. Place was clean and employees were friendly. Got a sandwich and coleslaw to go. Coleslaw was spoiled, sand which tasted odd and lettuce was brown and wilted. Eight bucks and change and time waiting, yuck. Sorry y'all.

Clay Pit

📍 Address: 1601 Guadalupe St, Austin

This might just be my favorite restaurant in Austin. I can't comment on the authentic Indian-ness of the food, but I can say that everything I've tasted at The Clay Pit has been delicious... You can request to have your dishes spicy, but I have enjoyed all of them mild. I was always afraid of curry after a painfully spicy experience eating at a Malaysian friend's home... :) So, I'm a-okay with a mild curry. All that said, lack of bite doesn't mean lack of flavor. Everyone I've accompanied to The Clay Pit raves about the Tikki Masala. It's apparently the most popular dish. But my favorites are definitely the Korma (cashew-almond-pistachio sauce with garlic and coconut), the Coconut Curry (onion curry with coconut milk, roasted whole spices and bay leaves), and the Kabuli Chicken (cooked in the Korma sauce and infused with pureed nuts, raisins, and cherries). I also really liked the creamy Mango Lassi drink, which also would have made a good light dessert. The ambience is slightly upscale and really alive. The noise level can be slightly loud sometimes, but has never been enough to really bother me. The prices are what I expected - about $10 for the curries and $15 for entrees from the grill. It's appropriate to dress up for this place, but it's also not awkward to show up in jeans. Every time I have been, there have been families with young children. It wouldn't have struck me as a great restaurant for kids, but these families seemed to enjoy it. I've only gone to happy hour at The Clay Pit once. I had a nice Prum Riesling. There was a big group having Mexican Martinis and the bartender graciously gave my friend and me small glasses with the leftovers, to sample. It was really good, but really strong. Really. They offer gift cards and catering. And I heard that their banquet room seats over 200 people. I can't speak to the authenticity of this place for Indian cuisine, but I definitely recommend it for a comfortable, stylish, upscale restaurant with professional staff and delicious food.

Xi Xia Western Chinese Cuisine

📍 Address: 1140 Kenny Centre Mall, Columbus

Stars: (4.5)

Everything there is delicious. Free appetizer is especially amazing. This is my second visit. I've tried beef noodles, Xi Xia stirred noodles, lamb pilaf and kimchi fried rice. Strongly recommend them all!! Yumm!

The Big Kahuna

📍 Address: , Austin

Stars: (4.5)

Big Kahuna is as good of poke as you can find in Austin and at a great price!! Portions were and pricing were both respectable; taste was 5/5! For relative comparisons, I would offer Ono Seafood and Ahi Assassins in Honolulu. While Big Kahuna isn't quite on par with those two legendary institutions, it is akin to them...and in Austin. So, for Austinites looking for some legit poke...highly recommend Keeping it Kahuna!

The COOP: A Southern Affair

📍 Address: 610 W Morse Blvd, Winter Park

Stars: (3.5)

Everyone was really nice. The place has a great feel too it. The cinnamon buns are awesome, biscuits and orange juice are great. The chicken was not good at all. I'll come back down the road and try it again. As of right now though I gotta give it three. It's worth checking out but be mindful ordering the chicken biscuits.

Saxon Pub

📍 Address: 2500 Hwy 71 E, Austin

*Sigh* my first bad review...I gotta say, though, it's well deserved. I asked one of the waitresses if I needed to order where she was standing for several minutes or if I needed to grab a table. She cut me off, and said "no, you need a table." She pretty much threw my menu on the table, and after looking at the menu (which only had about 4 ACTUAL breakfast options that wasn't cereal or pastries) I decided in less than a minute that I wanted a potato, egg, and cheese taco. It took her 5 minutes to come back and take my order, yet apparently all she had to do was grab the taco and hand it to me because it was pre-made. I open the wrapper of my $3.00 taco to find a puny little tortilla, barely any eggs, unflavored potatoes...and no cheese. How do you forget 1/3 of the ingredients on a PRE-MADE taco? Make the trip, and get breakfast somewhere else if you're in Bergstrom.
