FLIP burger boutique

📍 Address: 1587 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta

Stars: (4)

Hmmm... they discontinued the lobster knuckle sandwich (quite some time ago) because the lobster was not ground and formed into patties, so it did not fit the definition of a burger for this burger boutique. Sad reason for taking off something so tasty. They also took off the veal ossobuco burger, the venison burger, the po boyger (shrimp patty with bay mayo, tabasco and a slice of tempura fried lemon), and the Southerner (country fried patty with pimento cheese and green tomato ketchup)! Oh, where am I to go, what am I to do? Worry not, I tell my sinking heart, there's still plenty to love on that menu, and all those delicious burgers have a great chance of coming back as Flip continues to change its menu. I used to be able to say I had tried everything on their menu, but they keep changing things up and keep me engaged and interested. The shakes, including the krispy kreme shake, the orange creamsicle shake, the georgia peach shake, the banana pudding shake and the foie gras shake, are all delicious, and most of the flavors change seasonally. My favorite side (also currently off the menu) is the tempura fried okra with a sriracha ranch dip.

Terry Black's Barbecue

📍 Address: 1003 Barton Springs Rd, Austin

Stars: (4.5)

We had a great dinner at Blacks. It was 7:30 on a Sunday night and we had to wait at least a half hour. By the time we got to the front of the line they were down to just brisket, hot links, and chopped beef. But that was fine, because it was delish! However, when it was time to go I came to realize that Blacks does NOT recycle. Come on Blacks! I'm sure you go through thousands of bottles and cans every day. It's time to do your share for the community that's doing so much for you.

Desta Ethiopian Kitchen

📍 Address: 3086 Briarcliff Rd NE, Atlanta

Our first foray to an Ethiopian restaurant. It was great and we had fun sampling several dishes with our friends.

Medina Cafe

📍 Address: 780 Richards Street, Vancouver

Stars: (4)

First off people aren't lying when they say this place is ALWAYS busy ; because it truly is. I finally had some time to try this place out, so a friend and I decided to go on a Monday morning given that we both had the day off and ended up having to wait quite a while ( about an hour ) which was... expected of course. The food is really worth the hype. I went all out and ordered 2 waffles, they came with a choice of sauces , from which I picked milk chocolate lavender and salted caramel. For my entree I decided on Saumon Fumé. Both dishes absolutely blew me away. The Salmon was flavorful , fresh and full bodied. The waffles were light and fluffy on the inside with a hint of crispness on the outside with the sauces being a perfect pairing. This place is totally and completely worth the wait. Will definitely be going back.

Anna Bannanas NW

📍 Address: 1214 NW 21st Ave, Portland

Stars: (4)

Anna Bannanas and Coffee Time, both on NW 21st, are the only coffeehouses you patronize if you are a Nob Hill Hipster/Pseudo-Hipster. They are the kinds of coffeehouses that are open until midnight and once allowed smoking indoors before the smoking ban, you follow? They are divvy, as far as coffee shops go. But that is how many people like it. The Nob Hill Hipsters probably liked Anna Bannanas "before it was popular on Yelp." I for one prefer a little more polish and organization in a coffeehouse, but I can see why certain types of people love Anna Bannanas. It is an old-house-turned-coffeehouse with old mis-matched, flea-bitten furniture, some outdoor seating (including their front porch, my favorite spot), kind hipster baristas, lots of fliers pinned up to the wall, etc. It isn't the warmest or most inviting coffeehouse of all time, and can feel a little awkward at times, but again, that's the appeal of the place to some. It tends to feel very dark inside, especially on a cloudy day. Not a whole lot of natural light gets into A.B.'s. And I really love natural light. I prefer other coffeehouses, personally. Though, the coffee drinks here at A.B.'s are really really good. If you prefer your coffeehouses old and with a lot of character, off the beaten path a ways, and divvy-hip, then Anna Bannanas is for you. But if you're older and not terribly hip you might feel out of place here.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant

📍 Address: Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park 775 Werikhe Way, Lake Buena Vista

Stars: (4)

There are quite a few restaurants in Animal Kingdom that require reservations, and this is one of them. Be sure to pop in and make a reservation before you're hungry to account for however long it will take for a seat. We stopped in at prime lunch time and were quoted about hour and fifteen minutes until a table would be ready. Not a problem as we spent time fast-passing it up on the rides. It dies down heavily in shoulder hours, probably 2-4pm, so no reservation would be necessary during that time. Onto the food and drink. Plenty of drink options. Animal Kingdom serves alcohol. I opted for ribs and was not disappointed. The sushi roll we ordered had way too much mayo on it. I would recommend they don't overdo it on the sauces. The waitress was friendly and and top of refills and ensure we had everything we needed. Check was fast and orderly. Get the egg rolls and the ribs.
