Maenam

📍 Address: 1938 W 4th Avenue, Vancouver

This is the most upscale Thai restaurant in Vancouver. The atmosphere certainly conveys a modern richness. None of that tacky decor you may find in the usual thai or thai style establishment. That being said, I must say, I was not overwhelmed with the food. Partly because the architecture lends itself to wanting to be as good as the food. I just think the look wins the battle, In fact, i tended to be more curious about the tableware. One thing I will say about every single dish we had. There was a hesitation in the flavouring. I found it tended to fall short on having its own flavour before adding sauces. To me, a good dish has a little something going for it before I fix it. I really don't want to do too much work before I actually enjoy what i'm eating. Hey! But that is just me. We shared an assortment of plates from the lunch menu. Green Papaya Salad:(som dtam) green beans, carrots, garlic, bird's eye chiles, dried shrimp. The in-house made Thai sausage. Two orders of the roti. Green Curry of Coconut Braised Beef (geng gwio warn) bamboo, grachai, holy basil, pea eggplant, spicy, rich and earthy. Jungle Curry of Sablefish (geng bpa plah lampang) made with fried shallots, spicy, nutty and aromatics. Finally, the item both servers recommended with absolute glee - Chiang Mai curry noodles (kao soi gai)mild curry with coconut cream, pickled mustard greens, and slow braised chicken thighs. This one was my favourite of everything I tried. It had a nice contrast of textures and flavours plus the chicken was tender to the point where it could still absorb the flavours of the broth. To me, this dish was the saving grace. Actually, the pink orchard cocktail, they recommended was tasty. Yes, that I would order again. The other items have that problem I described. Not as enticing to the palate as it could be. It's not that you would have a bad meal. Not at all but I think it could be better. I haven't tried everything on their menu. I chose not to try the traditional Pad Thai you see on every menu because of just that. However, maybe that is, "the one!" I want to give this a higher rating based on what other reviewers had written. I will say this much, it is worth a try to experience a different spin of the presentation of Thai cuisine

Punjab Palace

📍 Address: 109 Brighton Ave, Allston

My second favorite Indian in Allston. Their naan, the garlic in particular, is the best I've ever had. Entrees range from good to great. Service in the restaurant and by delivery is always very good, often amazing.

Barcelona Wine Bar South End

📍 Address: 525 Tremont St, Boston

The atmosphere is so fun with good music and good lighting! The manager was so welcoming and kind. Although it was soo crowded and the waiters were so busy, I felt like they were trying their best to be helpful. BUTTTT the food is not good at all! It actually used to be good, but not anymore! Nothing is hot except the bread they bring with olive oil. We got some small portions, they didn't have good quality at all. You shouldn't go there if you want a really good food. We got the churos and chocolate cake for dessert, churos tasted like oil I didn't enjoy. I liked the chocolate cake but not the coconut icecream on top.

This place is awesome! We sat at the bar and had a great time! The Blonde bartender has been there for 13 years and she is hysterical! Made us laugh the whole time! The jumbo wings are AWESOME! And you can even order just all drums if you like!! The patty melt on marbled rye bread was FANTASTIC! We'll be back!!!!!!

Bella Italia Ristorante

I just got a couple of things Togo and what I got was fabulous. Got some Italian food to watch jersey shore. The girl on the phone was super nice and helpful. She feared me towards the limoncello cake, which was light, lemony and just enough for my sweet tooth. I asked her if I should get the bolognese or the penne a la vodka. So glad I chose the penne. It was the best I've had in a long time! Best in orlando for sure. (There's a place down south that is my personal number one). Pasta comes with a salad (decent for side salad size) and slice of buttery bread. Wish there was more bread for all of that yummy sauce. The sauce was thick and flavorful. I've had vodka sauce that was runny and flavorless and this was far from. Staff was really nice. Great job italia.
